LATEST PG SHOWCASE REPORT
2006 California Underclass
Addison Reed is a 2007 1B/UTL/P from Los Osos HS, residing in Etiwanda, CA, with a 6'4" 195 lb. frame. Reed was named to the top prospect team at the California Underclass Showcase and is a potential National Showcase invite. He has a strong and physical build though he is not yet fully firmed up. A left handed hitter, Reed has some present day power. He hits the ball hard and off his backside. He creates some leverage with that approach, similar in some ways to how J.T. Snows works to stay behind ball, while doing so off his backside. Reed's lower half approach and his swing plane allow him to easily lift the ball on the pull side. He has good hands and good bat speed, though his hands can get away from his body and cause him to go around the ball. Again, his present day power is good and there is more in there as his body matures and he firms up. Reed has good hands on defense. He is not swift of foot but works pretty well around the bag and should be a serviceable defender. His arm is good for the 1B position. On the mound Reed pitches from a 3/4 slot and showed some command. He has good mechanics thought more time is needed on the mound to refine all that he can do. His arm strength was good, better than he showed in the field. Reed had a wide FB velocity range, with a low of 83 and a touch of 88. That is to be considered as he gets older and if he continues to pitch, but at this point it looks like he is a left handed bat with power at a position that calls for it. He is a good midsize possibly upper level D1 prospect, depending how he handles upper level pitching this coming summer.
