Jonathan Barton is a 2006 shortstop/second baseman from Groves High School in Pooler, GA, with a 6'0'', 175 lb. frame. Barton has a strong and athletic body with good first step quickness. Defensively he has nice footwork with soft hands and good actions. Barton uses his quickness and instincts to get to balls deep in the hole and up the middle showing great range. To round off his defensive skills, he has good body control with an accurate arm making him an advanced defensive player. At the plate he hits from the right side with an open stance. Barton has solid bat speed with present strength in his swing. He gets out on his front side early at times, costing him some leverage at contact. Barton has good hands with a line drive swing plane and he will put the ball in play. He is a very good defensive player with upside at the plate.
