Matthew Rusch is a 2019 1B/3B with a 6-2 195 lb. frame from Oregon, WI who attends Oregon HS. Large frame with a solid build and present strength. Projects for additional size with strength. Ran a 7.99 sixty yard dash. Primary first baseman with compact footwork while ranging to and surrounding the baseball. Centers the baseball well while funneling with clean glove actions. Smooth paced footwork while pivoting to throw to second base. Released from a three-quarters slot producing occasional carry with accuracy across the infield, topped at 65 mph. Right handed hitter with an upright, open stance and high back elbow set. Hands load to a deep position creating a slightly barred position. Lower half launches to contact with linear actions generating some shift into contact. Barrel comes through the zone on a level, line drive plane through extension. Shows a high contact approach while working to the middle and opposite side of the field. Flashed good bat speed and strength at contact when aggressively attacking baseball with back side. Good student as well.
