Ross Hingst is a 2017 LHP/OF/1B with a 5-10 185 lb. frame from Waukee, IA who attends Waukee HS. Medium frame, athletic build with some strength. Open, balanced stance at the plate. Rotational lower half actions with some shift. Compact, inside bat path to contact. Loose swing through the zone with a high finish. Shows good hand and barrel skills with present bat speed. Stays behind contact well with a line drive approach and ability to hit to all fields. Worked out defensively from the outfield, behind the plate and first base. From the outfield shows an athletic, aggresive close to baseball. Smooth arm cirlce back with a three quarters arm slot at relase. Clean footwork and glove skills while working through the baseball. Turned hip set from behind the plate. Quick footwork with a compact exchange and arm circle. Gets the ball out quickly with a compact arm action. Best pop time of 1.93. At first base shows quick, soft hands while funneling ground balls. Athletic footwork with good range to both sides. Good carry with accuracy across the infield. Athletic footwork on slow roller. Also pitched showing drop and drive mechancis from a mid three quarters arm slot. Fastball has some arm side run with occasional sink in the upper 70's to low 80's. Drops to a side arm release point at times while facing left handed hitters, results in slightly more fastball run. Slider has 2/7 shape with some spin and tilt. Flashed a straight change up in the lower 70's. Good balance throughout delivery with both arm slot. Conistently in the zone with all pitches inducing soft contact. Athletic actions at all positions throughout the day. Shows highest ceiling as an outfield prospect at this time. Good student as well.
