2020 South Top Prospect Games at Texas A&M
Michael Saumell is a 2021 C/ with a 6-1 205 lb. frame from Spring, TX who attends Klein Cain HS. A rising senior at Cain HS in suburban north Houston, Michael is a solid catch and throw receiver who shows sound fundamentals behind the plate and a commendable ability to hit from both sides of the dish. A larger framed catcher, Michael has a solid, well-proportioned build. His set up is sound and he presents a low target consistently. He has soft hands and comes out of the chute well, gaining ground and transitioning to throw at a high level. His throws hold plane and his trigger allows for his 1.95 pop time to keep opponent running games in check. At the plate, Michael has some leverage in his swing from both sides of the plate. He has feel for the barrel from both sides, too. From the left side, he is more of a contact first hitter who sees the ball deep and uses more of an inside-out swing path. He shows some emerging power, but is more of a middle of the field to opposite field hitter from the left side. From the right side, that same feel for the barrel is there, but he uses his lower half a tick better and shows an ability to drive the ball with some force. His raw power potential righthanded is more evident.
