Dimitri De La Fuente is a 2008 SS/P/3B with a 6'1'', 185 lb. frame from West Covina, CA who attends South Hills HS. He has a very good athletic body with good strength throughout, especially in his lower half. De La Fuente is a very advanced hitter with all the hitting tools to be successful at the upper levels of the game. He hits from a calm and quiet start and has excellent explosion to the ball. His swing is long and on plane with top level raw bat speed. The ball comes off his bat easy and he shows easy line drive power to all fields and some lift when he pulls the ball. There really isn't much that De La Fuente needs to do with his hitting package except keep getting stronger. He is a 6.78 runner in the 60 who showed polished base running instincts and a good first step. Defensively, De La Fuente's best tool is his arm strength and his 88 mph velo in field drills is deceptively low; he has a cannon that he showed in games. His hands are infield soft but he doesn't always show smooth shortstop actions in his lower half and there's a good chance that he might end up at third base. De La Fuente also pitched and showed his arm strength from the mound, throwing 88-90 mph with minimal effort and a 71 mph curveball. He has a verbal commitment to Pepperdine.
