2019 PG Fall Top Prospect National Showcase
Jake Cothran is a 2020 LHP/1B, OF with a 6-0 165 lb. frame from Inman, SC who attends Chapman. Athletic and wiry frame the has some spring to it. A primary outfielder with fluid movements through the ball, soft hands and a sounds transfer that produces a consistent release and on line throws. There is upside to his approach and showed athleticism in the crow hop. The right-handed hitter has a balanced set up with high hands and stays very soft and controlled through his process. No real extra movement with a direct path and a flat swing. Very accurate with the barrel and sprayed line drives well. On the mound the delivery is athletic, high leg lift and uses a high 3/4 release. He hides the ball well and the arm stroke is clean producing some arm side life to the fastball. The curveball is sharp to the glove side,11/5 shape, and got some swing and miss against RHH's. The change up has fade to the arm side and he kept his hand speed well. Good job mixing pitchers and using his fastball to tunnel his off speed stuff. Good student.
