Drew Blankenship is a 2018 2B/RHP/C with a 5-9 165 lb. frame from Austin, TX who attends Anderson HS. Compact frame with a lean build. Frame projects to support additional strength. Primary second baseman with aggressive footwork while closing to and surrounding the baseball. Funnels the baseball from a deeper position and works through transfer with clean exchanges. Flashed some range to glove side with the ability to throw on the run. Primarily released from a three-quarters created some on line carry across the infield, topped at 71 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with a crouched, even stance. Stays on back side and works to contact with rotational lower half actions. Simple, direct path to contact with a line drive barrel plane through extension. Stays balanced throughout and employed a mid field approach. Flashed some jump off the barrel to the gaps with carry when creating separation at contact. Also pitched working exclusively from the stretch. High leg lift and stays balanced on back side at gather. Utilized lower half while working the to plate with drop and drive actions. Compact arm circle at take back and released from a three-quarters slot. Fastball showed occasional running life to arm side in the low to mid 70's, topped at 76 miles per hour. Curveball had proper shape with good spin and depth in the low 60's. Consistently looked to work to the lower quadrants of the strike zone and induce contact early in counts. Good student as well.
