Gary Zancanelli is a 2019 RHP/OF with a 6-1 175 lb. frame from Leawood, KS who attends Rockhurst. Large frame with a solid, athletic build. Projects for additional size and strength with continued maturity. Primary right handed pitcher with a big rock step to medium leg lift delivery. Stays tall on back side while gather and repeats mechanics well with good balance throughout. Lower half shows quick actions through release and generated solid push to the plate from back side. Created good on line direction to the plate while releases from a compact, high three-quarters arm slot. Fastball flashed occasional life through the zone between 76-79 miles per hour, topped at 80 mile per hour, with some downward action. Curveball has 10-to-5 shape with early break and good depth at 69 miles per hour. Has a good feel for curveball offering with the ability to throw in positive and negative counts. Consistently filled the strike zone with all pitches with developing feel and command to each edge of the plate. Was able to keep hitter off balance and induce weak contact. Worked out defensively from the outfield showing high energy actions while closing to and working through the baseball. Releases with a long arm action that generated good carry to the bag at 74 miles per hour. Showed clean glove, two handed funneling actions while working through transition into throwing position. Right handed hitter with a spread, slight closed stance and high back elbow set. Flashed present bat speed on a line drive plane that produced occasional leverage at contact. Primarily used a mid-field approach and when on time, shows the present strength to drive the baseball through the gaps. Tools will continue to develop with continued physical maturity and mechanical refinement. Outstanding student.
