Arturo Escandon is a 2019 RHP/3B, IF with a 5-10 170 lb. frame from Monterey Park, CA who attends Bishop Amat. Medium frame and build. Projects for additional strength. Primary right handed pitcher with a simple rock step to medium leg lift delivery. Stays balanced on back side at gather and worked to the plate with drop and drive actions. Lands in line with the plate and carries momentum well. Clean arm circle at take back and released from a high three-quarters slot. Fastball came out of hand cleanly producing some natural cut to glove side, topped at 80 miles per hour. Also was able to generate some run when working to the arm side edge of the plate. Curveball had 11/5 to near 12/6 shape with looser spin and good depth. Tends to slow arm speed slightly with a changeup offering that produced some fade. Consistently looked to challenge hitters to the bottom of the strike zone through each inning. Also worked out defensively from the infield showing a slightly taller stance while funneling the baseball. Quick transfer and released from a three-quarters slot. Throws generated accurate carry to the bag topping at 78 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with an upright, even stance and reaching front side trigger. Generated some linear shift into contact. Loose hand path with a line drive barrel plane. Stayed balanced throughout while employing a mid field to pull side approach. Excellent student as well.
