Gabriel Cruz is a 2019 RHP/OF, 3B with a 5-10 135 lb. frame from Bakersfield, CA who attends Liberty. Medium frame with a lean build. Projects for additional size with strength. Ran a 7.79 sixty yard dash. Primary right handed pitcher with a simple side step delivery. Stays tall on back side at gather and creates a slight pauses prior to hand separation. Drives to the plate with a smooth, easy lower half and front foot lands at a slightly open position. Releases from a long three-quarters arm slot. Fastball flashed some sinking action down in the zone with occasional run ranging between 75-77 miles per hour. Has good feel with curveball offering that showed soft, rolling shape. Tends to slow arm speed slightly with a changeup that slight running action to arm side in the mid 60's. Also worked out defensively from the outfield and infield. From the outfield shows deliberate footwork while working through the baseball into transition. Clean glove actions while funneling the baseball out front with a smooth paced exchange. Releases from a mid three-quarters arm slot that generated uphill carry to the bag topping at 79 miles per hour. From the infield shows developing footwork while surrounding the baseball with some range to each side. Has a taller fielding position with clean glove skills while while working to the balls out front. Similar three-quarters slot that generated some carry with accuracy across the infield, topped at 74 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with an upright, slightly open stance and simple leg lift trigger. Lower half has rotational actions generating occasional shift into contact. Hands work to baseball on a simple, line drive plane and produces solid extension through the hitting zone. Primarily employed a mid-field approach and consistently produced line drive, ground ball contact between the outfield gaps. Good student as well.
