Nolan McCarthy is a 2020 SS/RHP with a 6-0 170 lb. frame from Kalamazoo, MI who attends Portage Northern HS. Large and projectable frame with square shoulders and some strength present with more room to fill. Ran a 7.31 60 yard dash. Primary shortstop, fields baseball out in front, decent footwork, would like to see attack the ball with some more aggression, good range especially to glove side, playable arm strength from a lower arm angle with accuracy to the bag, topped out at 84 across the diamond. Also pitched, long arm action to a low 3/4 arm slot, effort at release, shorter stride down hill, arm wraps slightly through back side, would like to see lower half utilized more, attacks hitters with the fastball, generates some arm side life at times, curveball has pretty tight spin. Righthanded hitter, wide base, slightly open stance, hand set away from body, short to the ball with quick hands, some looseness to swing getting the barrel through the hitting zone nicely, pull power approach with some strength at contact, ball jumps when squared. Excellent student.
