JJ Kennett is a 2023 C/RHP/IF with a 5-9 145 lb. frame from Missouri City, TX who attends Ridge Point HS. JJ is a young prospect with upside at numerous positions. He has the frame and muscle mass to add strength and even more agility as he matures physically. In addition to his obvious physical ability on the field, JJ is also a standout student. His 7.75 60 yard dash puts him in the average runner range for his class. A primary catcher, JJ shows emerging skill that will only get better. His 74 mph throwing velo was enhanced by his 1.87 pop time. He presents a low profile at the ready and shows quick feet and an ability to gain ground well. He has a quicker trigger and gets his throws off routinely. His throwing accuracy is very consistent and is highly commendable. He also took grounders on the infield. He showed steady fundamentals that included quick feet to position, sound glovework and the same quick trigger and consistent throwing action he showed as a catcher. His 83 mph velocity across the infield, allowed for his throws to be firm and accurate. JJ also took a turn on the mound. For a younger player he showed a firm understanding of mechanics and an arm operation that he repeats well. He shows two sound pitches that will unquestionably be plus offerings as he develops. His 80-82 mph fastball showed plus running life and was thrown for strikes to both sides of the plate. His 70 mph curveball has noticeable depth and bite. With a bat in his hands, JJ is also very skilled. He is, without question, aggressive at the dish. He looks and acts like a hitter. He has noticeable strength in his hands which allows for advanced bat quickness. He has a great feel for the barrel and gets the good part of the bat to and through contact with force. JJ's current hit tool is advanced and will only get better as his career continues. This young player has a very high ceiling and all the energy, effort, and drive to reach whatever goals he has in and for the game.
