Caleb Butler is a 2022 1B/RHP/3B with a 6-3 205 lb. frame from Rome, GA who attends Darlington. The big primary first baseman moves around well for his size with smooth actions and plus glove work. Works through the ball well on defense, especially on low throws with good hand-eye coordination. He ran a 7.37 sixty yard dash and to the eye test looks comfortable on his feet. Secondary right-handed pitcher, uses a medium arm circle throwing motion from a high slot which creates down angle to hitters. Ran the fastball up to 78 mph, a curveball in the high-60s and a changeup around 70 mph. He threw all of his 3-pitch mix for strikes, with a feel to throw any of them in any count. Maintained velocity in the stretch and held runners close while on the bump. The right-handed hitter has thump in his bat, using his long limbs and tall frame out of a spread out stance to create leverage and loft in his swing. Butler has strength through the zone and likes to get his arms extended to drive the ball to the right-center gap. When he gets his arms extended on pitches away, he drives the ball with backspin and loft. Not much of a backside release at contact, Butler finds the barrel with some fluidity through the zone.
Good student with a 3.3 GPA.
