Joseph Semien is a 2021 LHP with a 5-11 150 lb. frame from Lake Charles, LA who attends Alfred M. Barbe HS. Joseph is a long and lean athlete, who shows consistent and twitchy actions on the diamond. He has a mature presence and a high baseball IQ. It is readily obvious that baseball is important to Joseph. Joseph is a primary LHP. His longer arm action and high 3/4 quarters slot combined with his long frame, add a great deal of deception to his overall operation. His 78-79 mph fastball is commanded well and controlled to the lower half of the zone. His heater shows active arm side run and late sink down. His 64 mph, 12/6 breaking ball is a tough pitch because of the spin and the change in velocity from his fastball. His breaking pitch shows noticeable depth at the plate. Joseph is a true pitcher who understands his ability and has the obvious drive to improve. Although, Joseph's future is unquestionably on the mound, he did take his turn at the plate. He gives max effort there. He uses his long frame to gain advanced leverage in and with his swing path. His plane is fairly steep and he swings with some controlled aggression. When his timing is right, he can strike the baseball. Joseph has a future in the game for numerous reasons. He is a LHP with a clue. He pounds the strike zone with two pitches that are sound now, and will certainly get better as his career continues. Most importantly, Joseph has an obvious passion for the game and appears completely dedicated to his craft.
