Gavin Mortenson is a 2020 SS/RHP, 2B, MIF with a 6-2 170 lb. frame from Summerfield, NC who attends Northwest Guilford. Large frame with athletic, highly-projectable build; ran 60 yard dash in 7.22 seconds. Hits from slightly open stance with smaller, controlled leg lift, hands bar a bit through load, compact bat speed with inside-out approach, good contact skills, consistent firm liners with projectable power. Excellent defensively in the middle infield, good footwork to both sides with range and athleticism, hands are outstanding out front, bounce in his step, timing is excellent, very impressive defender. Looked good on the mound too, whippy arm speed with an arm stroke that works well, gets downhill and creates plane, fastball worked 80-84 mph with good life, showed good feel for curveball and changeup. Overall very impressive performance. Named to 2018 Atlantic Coast Showcase Top Prospect List, good student.
