Oscar Herrera is a 2022 SS/RHP, 2B, 3B, MIF, IF with a 5-7 142 lb. frame from Allen, TX who attends John Paul II. Compact frame with a lean build. Primary shortstop with active, high energy footwork while rounding the baseball. Funnels from a slightly deeper position and showed developing range while moving to each side. Released from a three-quarters slot creating some on line carry to the bag topping at 68 mph. Right handed hitter with an even stance and toe tap trigger. Kept hands inside the baseball well while looking to work the ball on a line to the middle of the field and opposite field gap. Displayed best jump off the barrel when letting the ball travel to a deeper position and working to the gaps. Also pitched utilizing a small side step to high leg lift delivery. Stays flexed on back side at gather and worked to the plate with drop and drive actions. Tends to land at a slightly open position with front side. Loose arm circle at take back and released from a mid three-quarters slot. Primarily looked to locate fastball offering to the bottom quadrants of the zone in the mid 60's, topped at 66 mph. Curveball showed occasional 12/6 shape with solid spin and loose depth. Good student as well.
