Ryan Wilkins is a 2009 RHP/3B/OF with a 6'2'', 190 lb. frame from San Diego, CA who attends Cathedral Catholic HS. He was selected as a Top Prospect as a pitcher at this event. Wilkins has a strong build and a good pitcher's frame. He has a fast and strong arm that works from an over the top slot. There is some effort to Wilkins' delivery, including some violent head action, however, that did not hurt his feel for his secondary stuff, which is quite good. He pitches aggressively and showed an 84-86 mph fastball. The max effort delivery does impact his fastball command a bit. Wilkins' has a curveball and a slider and both of them have good spin and hard action. The slider was up to 78 mph and the curveball was 70 mph. He has feel of both pitches and both are capable of being out-pitches. It would be interesting to see Wilkins in a closer role. Offensively he also showed good ability, with a big swing and a power approach. Wilkins has some leverage in that swing and no doubt will hit some home runs in high school. He has a strong outfield arm with carry. Some college programs might see Wilkins as a two-way prospect. We liked him better on the mound, but he is young and time will sort it all out.
