2007 West Coast Top Prospect Showcase
Steven Keller is a 2008 C/3B with a 6'1'', 185 lb. frame from Agoura Hills, CA who attends Agoura HS. He was selected as a Top Prospect at this event and may have one of the brightest futures of all the players that attended. Keller can impact the game with his bat or with his arm or with his energy for the game. He has an athletic body with a lean and strong build. Talented switch-hitting catchers that are strong defensively are not all common, placing Keller among the top still available catches in the '08 class in California. Frankly, he is an early sign caliber player. He has good bat speed both sides of the plate and showed power numerous times from the right side. He stays back well and explodes through contact with a good weight shift and strong hands. His set-up is the same on both sides. Though he has less power on the left side, he does make good barrel contact on that side. Keller is a middle of the order bat with the ability to hit for average and power. Defensively he also stood out. His arm is strong and quick and his feet also work really well. Keller's catch/throw skills are advanced and they are as good in games as in workouts. He is a good receiver and has outstanding block/control skills. Keller understands how to play and simply put has a chance to be an impact college player. He likely will get pro attention someday as well.
