Matthew Ashmore is a 2021 1B/OF with a 6-3 185 lb. frame from Orange, CA who attends Mater Dei High School. Large, athletic frame with square shoulders and long limbs, projectable build with room to fill throughout moving forward. Ran a 7.32 60-yard dash. Primary first baseman, fields the ball closer to body, shows glove skill to adjust to hop, moves well on the turn with footwork, can implement additional lower half into release, shows accuracy on throws, Quick transfer from the outfield, tighter arm action on throws, works behind the ball well, upper body dominant release and tends to get uphill at release. Righthanded hitter, begins with an even stance and medium hand set, utilizes a leg lift trigger for timing at the plate. Stays short to the ball with hands and shows quickness through the zone, remains compact, gets downward with path at times. Generates jump off the barrel when in sync with shift, projects well offensively with additional extension out front at the point of contact. Good student.
