2007 West Coast Top Prospect Showcase
Adam Salazar is a 2008 C/P with a 6'0'', 190 lb. frame from Riverside, CA who attends Arlington HS. He was selected as a Top Prospect and frankly could have been rated prospect #1A. Salazar is a physical and talented player. He has an athletic proportioned physical build with good present day strength. In all phases of the game (save for running) he is a top level talent with a chance to be an impact player at the D1 level. Salazar also is likely to get strong draft interest this spring. Offensively he showed plus bat speed with present day power to all fields. He has excellent barrel awareness and the ball carries off his bat. It was fun to watch Salazar swing the bat because he not only has a nice looking swing but also swings with controlled aggressiveness. Defensively he is a very good receiver with strong and soft hands. He plus block/control skills and works hard behind the plate. His arm is strong and his throws track on the bag. All told Salazar has pro tools as a defensive catcher and for that matter, as a hitter. He also was impressive on the mound, with a closer's repertoire that included a 87-88 mph fastball with heavy action and a sharp 78 mph power curveball.
