Jake Cook is a 2023 C/2B with a 5-9 140 lb. frame from Las Vegas, NV who attends Desert Oasis HS. Jake is an emerging athletic talent who has the frame and obvious work ethic to add strength and agility to his game as he matures. In addition to his commendable talent on the field, Jake is also a standout in the classroom. He ran a 7.43 60 yard dash. A primary catcher, Jake shows an easy set-up at the ready and soft, sure hands when receiving the ball. His transition to throw is quick and consistent and he gets his 69 mph throws off to second base with routine effort. His 2.19 pop time is made even better his throwing action which should allow his pop time to get even better as he continues through his HS career. Jake also took a turn on the IF where he showed consistently quick feet and an ability to get into a sound fielding position regularly. He plays through the ball well and his hands are soft and sure. He gets his plus average 79 mph throws on their way and on target with solid and consistent effort. At the dish, Jake's offensive game is one built on a plus fundamental approach. Balanced at the ready, Jake shows a quick weight shift and a trigger that allows his barrel to get to and through contact with some force - he showed some raw power that will certainly continue to develop - Jake has ability and skill level to impact the HS baseball world for the next three years. He shows current plus average ability at two positions and has a feel for swinging the bat. A couple of more years exposure to higher level competition and a dedication to the weight, will find this young player on the cusp of an extended career at the college level.
