2021 California Workout Camp Session 6
Ben Lyons is a 2023 RHP/MIF, OF with a 5-11 165 lb. frame from San Diego, CA who attends Rancho Bernardo. He ran a 7.07 second sixty. A primary right-handed pitcher with a lean build. On the mound he works with a longer clean arm action up to a high three-quarters slot with the fastball sitting 79-84 mph with some effort out front getting it to both halves effectively. The curveball has has 11-5 shape with the potential for more bite as he gets more extension out front finishing the pitch, the changeup shows diving actions when he gets the same extension as he does on the fastball. This has the makings of a decent three pitch mix with added maturity and consistent extension on all three offerings. On the infield he showed soft hands on the infield funneling the ball well and looking best going to his left with average arm strength. In the outfield he fields the ball deep on the body working into a crow hop with a clean arm action with a shoulder tilt before producing some carry on the throws at 83 mph. Right-handed hitter, starts with a wider base using a simple stride and load to time up the swing, the bat path works more up hill with strength in the hands impacting the baseball best to the pull side.
