2021 California Workout Camp Session 5
Raul De La Riva Jr. is a 2024 C/MIF/OF with a 5-7 135 lb. frame from Corona, CA who attends Tustin. High energy player with good athletic tendencies. Primary catcher, hands work well with some present receiving skills and a clean transition into throw. Throws have some low carry to the bag and are accurate, release is quick with good short arm action. Lower half mechanics needs polishing but will fill in the gaps with some maturing strength gains. Makes the right steps in the infield and gets a good jump on contact with ready feet, flashed good range to both sides. Glove work is above average and throws were good, looked comfortable making the play from different slots. Takes some time to gather momentum toward the end game, but has time to build some strength behind the quick arm. Switch hitter, swing looks much cleaner from the natural right side. Solid short repeatable swing, pretty athletic with a lift swing path. Hands are deep and strong at contact, showed good control of the barrel. Looks pretty new to the left side and needs to develop a timing mechanism before it is effective in-game. Great student.
