Johnson is a slender left handed hitting catcher from Florida with a good balance of tools. He has some wiry strength in his frame and the chance to get better as he gets stronger. Johnson hits out of a wide, crouched stance at the plate with a rotational swing. When he gets his hips through he generates good bat speed and hits the ball hard to the middle of the field. Johnson showed a selective strike zone in the games but had the ability to aggressively attack the strikes he wanted. Defensively, Johnson impressed us with his quickness and blocking ability. He really does a good job keeping balls in front of him. He had solid arm strength at 75 mph but his quickness resulted in low 1.90 area pop times. Johnson’s defensive skills definitely play at the next level. He’s a very good student as well.
