Mason Smith is a 2024 1B/RHP with a 5-11 215 lb. frame from Franklin, MA who attends Franklin. Medium, broad shouldered build with some present strength to frame. Ran a 9.46 60-yard dash. Primary first baseman, fields the ball out front, young footwork coming off the bag, over-the-top release point on throws and shows accuracy to intended base, arm strength and carry will continue to develop on throws. Also pitched, medium leg lift with deliberate tempo to pace on mound, longer stride and can continue to incorporate additional lower half into drive. Shorter arm action through the backside, worked to a three-quarters release point; fastball topped out at 65 mph, tends to open front side early, worked around the zone and pitched to contact, showed 12-6 shape to curveball up to 59 mph. Right-handed hitter, begins with an open stance and a high hand set and back elbow at the plate; utilizes a leg lift trigger for timing at the plate, can incorporate additional weight shift moving into contact. Handsy swing and stays short through the zone with swing, looks to pull at point of contact, occasionally gets around the ball, best contact when working on a linear plane. Very good student.
