Brian Petry is a 2007 RHP/3B with a 6'2'', 175 lb. frame from Valley Center CA, who attends Valley Center HS. Petry has a lean, lanky body type that has a lot of room to fill out. He is a nice looking pitching prospect and could really come on at any time. As it is today, Petry is quite good but is still scratching the surface of what he can be in the future. He pitches from a high 3/4 slot, with a long, clean arm stroke. His arm is quick and he works with easy effort. Petry has an athletic delivery, with good body control and nice frontside extension that gives his pitches added late life. His fastball topped at 86 and sat 83-86, with lively down movement; sometimes run, other times good sink. His slider has sweeping action and decent rotation. It was best when he got to full extension and is a pitch that should develop quite nicely. Petry got a lot of ground balls and forced contact by aggressively attacking the bottom of the zone. He is a quality pitching prospect and still has a lot more to offer down the road. He is a quality student and possesses true projectability on the mound. For added measure that speaks to his athleticsm, he has a quick bat and a nice line drive stroke, showing some pullside power.
