Dead Red Baseball is coached and managed by Erik Shafer and plays out of Newnan, GA. Raised in Tampa, FL, Erik was a two sport athlete at the University of Central Florida having played Quarterback and Catcher for the Golden Knights from 1997-2000. Shafer had the opportunity to work with some of the best pitching prospects to come out of Florida during this time, including former Detroit Tiger and current Gwinnett Braves pitching coach Mike Maroth. After college, Shafer went on to play independent professional baseball in the Northern League for the Lincoln Saltdogs, working along side former big league hitting coach Mike Busch. Following his playing career, Shafer spent 3 years as a Division II Assistant Coach at St. Leo University in Tampa, FL. He also had the opportunity to coach 4 years as the Head Coach at Wesley Chapel High School in Tampa. Erik has helped produce numerous professional and college prospects over his coaching tenure. Erik's brother Kurt is a former minor league All-Star pitcher with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Dead Red Baseball is a select travel baseball organization based in Newnan, GA. DR Baseball is built on the foundation of fundamentals and faith, to build up our young men to compete on and off the field. DR Baseball will play a tournament schedule to include Grand Slam, USSSA, Perfect Game and Training Legends events in and around the Greater Atlanta area. We are constantly looking for men who are interested in coaching a travel team and giving back to our community.
