Gerard Ortega is a 2024 C/RHP/OF with a 5-11 160 lb. frame from Tampa, FL who attends Leto. Medium, athletic build with square shoulders and some present strength to frame. Ran a 7.69 60-yard dash. Primary catcher, began with a staggered start behind plate in drills but lower set and showed flexibility in hips, consistent actions coming out of the crouch with nice present arm strength and accuracy down to second base bag. Long and loose arm stroke on throws from the outfield, stays on line with release and throws, nice carry to the intended base and showed ability to repeat. Also pitched, worked exclusively out of the stretch with a leg lift up to belt, lands on line coming down the mound and shows a similar long and loose arm stroke working to a high three-quarters release. Quick and efficient outing, fastball topped out at 82 mph and shows running life with occasional ride up in the zone; curveball varied in shape between 11-5 and 12-6 but showed depth and feel for it as put away offering up to 66 mph. Left-handed hitter, begins with a wide base and a high hand set and back elbow at the plate. Linear to downward swing path but does a nice job of getting extended through the zone. Comfort working to his pull side with contact and handled the barrel well. Good student.
