2024 Sunshine Rocky Mountain Showcase (Tues-Wed)
Ian Lenius is a 2025 LHP/OF with a 6-0 170 lb. frame from Middleton, ID, who attends Middleton. Tall and lean frame with lots of room to continue adding strength. Room to fill in a projectable frame. Ran a 7.40 60-yard dash. A primary left-handed pitcher who has some length, with a side-step into a leg lift up around the belt with some coil to it. He closed off the front side, working down the slope with some force, pulling down through his release and pitching from a higher slot. Extends somewhat with the front side. He worked 86-89 mph on the fastball, grabbing 90 mph a couple of times throughout his outing with spin above 2,200 RPMs. He had some downhill to the fastball, especially in the lower half of the zone. He also showed a harder cutter in the low- to mid-80s with a tight lateral shape to it. Also mixed in a hi-tilt breaking ball that was in the upper-70s with spin up to 2,253 RPMs. He was able to get some whiffs with the pitch. He also showed a changeup up to 81 mph, with a good fade, killing spin down into the 1,200 RPM range. He showed a four-pitch mix and was able to dominate the opposition throughout his outing, holding velocity and recording outs along the way. Also worked out as an outfielder with longer levers working into it, fielding the ball off the front side and working from a longer arm action with some whip through it. Clean whip through release, throwing 88 mph from the outfield, with fundamental footwork on his approach. Quick transition with good carry and flight on his throws, staying accurate throughout the round as well. Took BP as a left-handed hitter with an even base and squared stance. He used a toe-tap trigger to get on time with pitches. Lenius coils as he loads and then works shorter and more directly to the ball with some bat speed and an uphill path through contact. Can get rotational in the upper body, turning aggressively through contact to work the pull-side part of the field. He had some loud impacts when on the barrel during BP, working gap-to-gap with his best contact during BP. Produced an 89 mph exit velocity during PG Tech testing. Hit well in-game as well, adding a couple of hits. Named to 2024 Sunshine Rocky Mountain Showcase TP List. Good student. Utah commit.
