Derrick Holmes is a 2025 2B/OF with a 5-11 174 lb. frame from South Holland, IL, who attends Brother Rice. A taller kid with a higher-set waist. Athleticism and strength showed throughout the frame. Ran a 7.30 60-yard dash. Worked out as an outfielder with quick motions, fielding the ball off to the side of the front foot. He has aggressive footwork with plenty of carry on his throws and plenty of arm strength showing. Uphill throws with a compact release. Threw 90 mph from the outfield during his round of throws. He also worked out as an infielder with a good pace to his actions. He fields it out front and shows softer hands with the glove. Throws were accurate across the diamond at 85 mph. Arm strength also showed on the infield, and he had a clue for the arm slots, adjusting as needed. Softer backhand with a good round of defense overall. A right-handed hitter with an athletic stance. Starts with an even base and slightly open feet. He showed quick hands with an aggressive stroke that was shorter to contact. The ball jumped off the bat with a longer finish through contact. He got on plane early and was able to work back up the middle well during his round of BP swings. Produced an 87 mph exit velocity during PG Tech testing. Also took to the mound as a right-handed pitcher, working from the wind-up with a leg lift just above the belt before he strides downhill. Athletic delivery overall. He had a longer arm path to release, hiding it through the back. Shorter with his load, more of a scap load, but longer arm circle after the takeaway. Fastball was 77-79 mph with some arm-side run to it, also flashing an 11/5 shaped curveball in the arsenal as well. Fastball rode through the zone and could land the breaker for strikes or use it as a bat-misser. Good student. Named to the 2024 Chicago Indoor showcase TP List;
