Ian Wirtz is a 2023 C/1B, 3B, OF with a 5-11 180 lb. frame from Cheshire, CT who attends Cheshire. Medium, athletic frame with square shoulders and present strength proportioned throughout. Ran a 7.23 60-yard dash. Primary catcher, wide base in set up behind the plate, receives the ball out front, gains short ground with lower half coming out of crouch, shows quickness to arm action working to an over-the-top release point, shows carry on throws with some effort at release, works on top of ball consistently, can continue to refine overall actions. Right-handed hitter, begins with an even stance and a high hand set and back elbow at the plate; utilizes a hanging leg lift trigger for timing at the plate. Full swing path through the zone, gets the barrel out front, occasionally opens front side early. Shows quickness to hands to the point of contact, gets mistimed with front foot. Excellent student.
