BPA holds steady for 11u Major Title

EMERSON, Ga. – BPA capped off an impressive tournament run that saw them run through the competition and culminated with an 8-1 victory over the East Cobb Astros. The bats and arms were both impressive all weekend as they finished with a 29-5 run differential over the four games that finished with a big win in the championship round.

Christian Ponte was outstanding in the victory on the mound for BPA. The pitcher was very impressive as he finished with five and two-thirds innings and he struck out seven batters. The pitches were tough to square up as he allowed only two hits during the start on the mound and also collected a hit and two walks at the plate.

The offense took center stage with eight total runs which included seven hits and five walks. Elijah Stephens went 2-4 with the lone extra base hit and Cole Prosek notched the most RBIs with two of them off a single.

Prosek was named the MVP of the tournament as he hit .583 with seven RBI and ended the event with hitting more extra base hits than singles, four to three. The MV-Pitcher of the tournament was Cooper Flemming of BPA. Flemming was outstanding during his one start of the event with six and one-third innings with no earned runs and struck out nine batters.

Lambert Longhorns walk off CBC Frye at 11u Minor

EMERSON, Ga. – In a very tense game that came down to a walkoff victory, the Lambert Longhorns outlasted CBC Frye by a final score of 6-5. A back-and-forth affair that featured a big comeback by CBC, although the Longhorns proved too much to overcome.

Shortstop Sam Schaeffer was a strong presence at the top of the lineup with one hit, though the one hit was a big one as it was a home run. Schaeffer totaled one home run, one RBI, and three runs scored. Grant Gardner also had a strong game as he was credited with the victory and also went 2-2 with two runs scored.

CCC tied the game in the top of the fifth inning with three runs to extend the game. Schaeffer scored the game winning run in the bottom of the seventh after walking, stealing second base, and then scoring on an error.

Brady Elrod of CBC was named the MV-Pitcher of the tournament. Elrod allowed only one earned run on two hits while striking out seven batters over six and two-thirds innings. Jake Stuetzer of the Longhorns was named the MVP. Stuetzer finished the weekend hitting .429 with five RBI.

Georgia Braves Clinch Major Crown

EMERSON, Ga. – The Georgia Braves defeated the 12u Cougars by a score of 4-3 in the championship game of the 2018 PG 12U Invitational (Major Division). Each team showed throughout the tournament that they were going to be a tough out for their opponents.

It took four innings for the Braves offense to get going, but they came up when it mattered putting runs on the board in each of the final three innings. Down 1-0 in the fourth inning, the Braves scored their first run to tie the game. The run came on an error by the Cougars as Tristan Gabrels came across the plate to score. As mentioned the Braves would score another run in the fifth to take a 2-1 lead. The fifth inning run was scored by Joshua Bull on a Gabrels RBI groundout.

The sixth and final inning the Braves put two more runs across the plate that proved to be just enough to seal the deal. Colton Wilbanks would score on a wild pitch after singling to get on base. Cooper Johnson would double home another run this time Ajay Jones would come across. The score was 4-1 going into the bottom of the sixth inning. The Cougars would score 2 in the bottom half of the sixth, but that was not quite enough as the game concluded with a 4-3 score.

The Braves received outstanding starting pitching from Tristan Gabrels who pitched to the pitch count limit and earned a win. Gabrels struck out 5 and allowed just 2 earned runs in his 5 2/3 innings on the hill.

The MVP of the tournament was Evan Dickens of the 12U Courgars. Dickens had an impressive weekend batting 8-16 (.500) including 5 of those hits going for extra bases and 2 of those being home runs. He also brought home a tournament-best 9 RBI in doing so.

The MVPitcher of the 2018 PG 12U Invitational (Major Division) was Brady Stephens of the championship winning Georgia Braves. Stephens finished the weekend earning a win against Titans Baseball Blue as he threw a complete 6 inning shutout on just 65 pitches. Stephens allowed just one hit in his complete game and struck out 3 in doing so.

Reign Baseball reigns supreme at 12U Minor

EMERSON, Ga. – Reign Baseball scored early and often in the championship of the 2018 PG 12U Invitational (Minor Division) to defeat the Lambert Longhorns by a score of 8-6. Each team totaled the same amount of hits as runs scored respectively.

Lambert scored a run in the top of the first and second innings, but Reign answered back each time with a 3 spot of their own. The damage was done early in the first inning by Reign as John Beverley scored on a wild pitch after walking to lead off the game. Collin Hart stepped to the plate with one out and a man on third base and proceeded to hit an inside-the-park home run to right field to put two more runs on the board making the score 3-1.

In the second inning Adain Bonner would double with one out to begin the next scoring threat. Gregorio Gonzalez would drive him with an RBI single of his own to push the Reign lead to 4-2. After a Brendan Keller single put himself and Gonzalez at the corners, Joe Crick would drive each of them in with a double of his own.

Reign Baseball would not look back as they would add two more insurance runs in the fourth inning to secure the championship victory.

The MVP of the 2018 PG 12U Invitational (Minor Division) was Garrett Powers of the Lambert Longhorns. Powers led the entire event in hits (9) and RBI (12) as he batted 9-15 (.600) with a pair of home runs on the weekend.

The MVPitcher of the event was Collin Hart of Reign Baseball. Hart appeared in two games earning the win in one and not allowing a hit over the course of 5 2/3 innings with 5 strikeouts and no walks.
