The East Cobb Yankees offense was firing on all cylinders and their pitching was even better. The Florida Bandits were the unfortunate victims in their way today, falling 15-2.
The Yankees were led by Patrick Wiseman (2014, Pope HS, GA) who launched a three run homer in the first inning, part of a 1-3 game with four RBI and three runs scored. He showed light tower power to all fields with a live bat and a large 6'5 220 pound frame. Wade Bailey (2014, Villa Rica HS, GA) was 2-4 with a double, hit by pitch, three runs scored and three stolen bases. Joey Bart (2015, Buford HS, GA) was 2-2 with two RBI, two runs scored, and a walk. Matt Mixon (2014, North Paulding HS, GA) was 2-2 with a walk, stolen base, and three runs scored, and Tyler Heinrichs (2015, Walton HS, GA) drove in two going 1-3. Wiseman, Bailey, and Bart are all commited to Georgia Tech, while Heinrichs is committed to Tulane.
Though the Bandits scored twice, they did so without getting a hit. The made the most of three errors by the Yankees and one walk. Shane Tucker (2015, Union Grove HS, GA) was credited with the win as he threw 2.2 innings, allowing the two unearned runs on the one walk and five strike outs. He overpowered the opposition with a 86-90 mph fastball he could sink or run that touched 92 mph. Tucker maintains his velocity well with a plus, heavy, explosive fastball that he can elevate and overpower hitters with. He also featured a nasty 81-83 mph slider with late break and good command of the pitch. He's got a balanced delivery with a 3/4 arm slot, throws strikes, and is committed to attend the University of Georgia.
Carter Hall (2015, Wesleyan HS, GA) and Keyton Gibson (2015, Buford HS) each threw a dominant inning with no base runners allowed while Gibson notched one strike out. Hall was touching 91 mph and sitting 89-91 mph with his fastball and featured an 83 mph slider. He's got a strong, athletic frame coming from a 3/4 arm angle with good arm action. Gibson used pinpoint command and effortless arm action to blow away hitters with an 89-91 mph fastball with armside run and life. He works fast and attacks hitters with outstanding arm speed with solid arm action. He also hides the ball very well and shows two breaking balls with the 12-6 curve showing better. It's a true Uncle Charlie with late break and is his out pitch, sitting around 74-75 mph.
The Florida Bandits were handcuffed all game by the Yankees pitching but there is something to be said for them being the first team to score on the Yankees so far in the tournament. Jacob Schenck (2014, Lecanto HS, FL) worked the only walk for the Bandits and he came around to score. Ryan Gilbert (2015, Tavares HS, FL) scored the other run after reaching on an error.
