10-Purple vs 7-Maroon Game Highlights

8/4/2024

Brannan Vargas (2028 C, Toledo, OH) started the game off strong, striking out 4 in just two innings pitched. His fastball got a healthy amount of whiffs, working with mostly cut-ride action and living in the high-70s (topping out at 80). He also caught some barrels at the plate, where his athleticism and strength helped him put some force into his swing. Intriguing upside on either side of the ball.

Maddox Pieton (2028 1B, Hubbard, OH) found a barrel into the right center gap in his first at-bat, working backside on a pitch moving away from him showing advanced intent in his approach. Closed stance with a rhythmic set and a timing stride. His swing is even and planar, with a slight uppercut, as well, his hips break early and he gets his hands around quickly. As he continues to grow, he may see an uptick in power with his swing and bat speed

Logan Kerner (2028 RHP, Morrow, OH) scored two with a triple into the left-center gap. Got his hands to the ball with ease and created solid lift. Some muscle in the frame with the ability to hunt elevation and put a good strike on the ball. He jumped on the fastball early, showing off some aggression in the box and a clear intention to do damage each and every at-bat. Advanced pop off the bat with a solid combination of power and speed, especially if he continues to work the gaps and force defenses to work.

Dominic Porcello (2028 SS, Wickliffe, OH) threw well in the middle innings, showing off very advanced stuff with a wide pitch mix and excellent signs of potential moving forward. Tall and lean with long levers, Porcello has a strong frame off of which to develop. He primarily works with a cut-fastball that lives in the mid-to high 70s, getting up to 78 on one occasion. His primary secondary was a curveball with some sweep that he was able to spin extremely well (2200+ RPM). Drop-and-drive delivery with the ability to get down the mound well.

Jayden Arnold (2028 RHP, Clarksville, IN) roped one over the left fielder’s head for a ground rule double to open up the bottom of the fourth. His build is advanced, with a strong base and present muscle, which he uses to generate solid raw power. On the swing side, he displayed some length with the ability to deal significant damage through the zone. Stayed patient throughout, sitting back on offspeed and finding a good pitch to hit.
