3-Royal vs. 2-Red game notes

Blue opened the scoring as Liam O'Hair (2029 MIF, Osceola, IA) reached on a fielder's choice before stealing two bags and scoring on an RBI single from Chase Wisdom (2029 SS, Liberty, MO). Red would answer quickly thanks to Logan Polczynski (2028 OF, Hot Springs, AR), who singled, stole a base and eventually scored.

Zach Zelch (2028 3B, St Louis, MO) drove in Malcolm Donaldson (2028 OF, Frankfort, IL) to push Red ahead in the second. Both players had a nice weekend, showcasing their athleticism and versatility around the field.

Grant Reed (2028 C, O Fallon, IL) and Nicholas Snow (2028 2B, Cabot, AR) tallied back-to-back singles in the third for Blue, but the rally was quelled by Justin Carpiniello (2028 3B, Olathe, KS). Carpiniello, a strong-framed RHP, showed off a delivery that had some nice rhythm and punched out four in his two innings of work.

Evan Koenigsfeld (2028 C, Linn, MO) notched a leadoff double and stole third base to lead off the fourth. He was later driven in by Aiden Combs (2028 OF, Elizabethtown, IL) to cap the scoring on the day.


2-Red vs. 1-Gray game notes

Aiden Combs (2028 OF, Elizabethtown, IL) tallied a hit and three stolen bases for Red while also playing solid defense in the middle infield. The strong-framed Combs showcased an aggressive style of baserunning and impressive athleticism overall. Anderson Hudson (2028 C, Old Monroe, MO) continued his hot streak for the weekend, notching a single and a stolen base en route to scoring a run. 

Ryder Holmstrom (2028 MIF, Shawnee, KS) was particularly impressive on the mound for Red, punching out four and allowing just one hit in a pair of scoreless innings. Holmstrom topped at 78mph and spun some tight breaking balls, pounding the zone at a 80% strike rate.

For Gray, both Bryce Davis (2028 UT, Lees Summit, MO) and Kayden Tarter (2028 LHP, Olathe, KS) tallied a single, a stolen base and scored a run.


1-Gray vs. 3-Royal game notes

Royal notched a pair of runs in each of the last two innings to earn a come-from-behind win over Gray.

Logan Latier (2029 1B, Kansas City, MO), who entered the game with his team down 3-1, held the Gray bats hitless in three shutout innings. Latier pitched at a 66% strike rate, topping out at 73mph and featuring a slider that he could throw both for strikes and for chase.

Royal was led offensively by Carter Hoover (2028 C, Rocheport, MO), who went 2-for-2 with a triple and two runs scored and a pair of stolen bases. Chase Wisdom (2029 SS, Liberty, MO) also logged an RBI single, stole a base and scored a run.

Gray's offense was a balanced attack, with six players notching hits. Jonathan Drainer (2028 2B, Ballwin, MO), Trevor Smith (2028 3B, Goddard, KS) and Bryce Davis (2028 UT, Lees Summit, MO) each singled, scored a run and stole a base. Nick Kirwan was also effective on the mound, allowing a single run in two innings and pounding the zone at a 64% strike rate. 

2-Red vs. 3-Royal game notes

Red used a pair of runs in each of the first two innings to jump out to an early lead, thanks to triples from Aiden Combs (2028 OF, Elizabethtown, IL) and Zach Zelch (2028 3B, St Louis, MO). Nine players in the Red lineup got a hit, with Kaden Seil (2028 3B, Long Grove, IA) (2-for-2, two runs scored, stolen base), Zelch (2-for-2, triple, two RBIs), and Malcolm Donaldson (2028 OF, Frankfort, IL) (3-for-3, two steals, run scored) leading the charge. Donaldson showed off blazing speed on two of his hits, which were infield singles. 

Evan Koenigsfeld (2028 C, Linn, MO) held steady for Red on the mound, allowing s single run on three hits in two innings of work. He was followed by a brilliant performance from Zelch, who punched out four in two perfect innings, topped at 73mph, and also showcased a good breaking ball with depth in the mid-60s.

For Royal, Nicholas Snow (2028 2B, Cabot, AR) was electric on the mound, allowing a single hit in two shutout innings. Snow struck out four and topped at an event-best (at the time of this writing) 79mph.

3-Royal vs. 1-Gray game notes

8/17/2024

3-Royal and 1-Gray played to a 5-5 tie in an offensive contest that featured 15 hits. Nicholas Snow (2028 2B, Cabot, AR) belted a three-RBI inside the park home run to the deepest parts of the KC MLB Youth Academy fields. Chase Wisdom (2029 SS, Liberty, MO) would double and steal third before being driven in by Ian Smith (2028 OF, Versailles, MO)

Gray answered with a big inning of its own in the fourth, highlighted by thanks to an inside the parker of their own, from Brody Akins (2028 OF, Union, MO). Akins drove in four and scored the fifth Gray run himself. Nick Kirwan (2028 1B, Kansas City, MO) also collected a pair of hits and two stolen bases for Gray.

Thomas Eggers (2029 OF, Raymore, MO) was a highlight on the mound during the contest, striking out a pair in his two innings of work. Eggers topped at 78mph and threw 60% strikes. Jonathan Drainer and Bryce Davis added steady relief, combining for three innings with no earned runs and four punchouts. 

1-Gray vs. 2-Red notes

Gray and Red battled to a 2-2 draw in a tightly contested matchup that featured a couple nice plays early on. Isaac Quinn (2028 SS, Kansas City, KS) made a pair of nice plays at second base early on, and Aiden Combs (2028 OF, Elizabethtown, IL) added a diving play of his own from short.

The scoring broke out on a legitimate inside-the-park home run from Thomas Eggers (2029 OF, Raymore, MO), who smashed a deep drive to left-center and turned on the jets around the bases, just ahead of the relay throw. Anderson Hudson (2028 C, Old Monroe, MO) paced the Red squad with a pair of knocks in both of his plate appearances.

Kayden Tarter (2028 LHP, Olathe, KS) led the way on the mound, allowing just a pair of hits in three scoreless innings and fanning five, topping out at 72mph. Combs also impressed in his solo inning of work, striking out the side and topping out at a game-best 73mph.
