North Coast Wins the Championship.

The North Coast Reds tops War Eagle 16u in a back and forth 11-7 victory to win championship. The offense game was strong for both teams today. North Coast Reds had some nice help from their offense hitting game. Christian Encarnacion Strand was hot today going 3-4 and scoring two runs. Nicholas Simmons went 1-3 and scored two runs for the day. Zachary Chalmers (California, San Ramon, CA 2017) went 1-4 and scored one run for the day. Also Matt Pascual-Mead was hot for the day going perfect 2-2, scoring one run and had one RBI. The War Eagle 16u team had some solid hitting today too. Samuel Langston (WEstwood, Mesa, AZ 2016) went 2-3 and had two RBI's. Niko Piazza went 1-3 and scored three runs for the day. Alex Stinnett went 1-4 for the day.

Pitching was alright for the day. Both teams used good amount of pitchers for the day. J. Barnett started for the North Coast Reds. Barnett range on his fastball 80-84 mph. Ryan Mackey (Rio Vista, Rio Vista, CA 2017) pitched a lot of the load for the team. Mackey pitched a solid 4 2/3 innings, giving up only two runs, two walks and racking up three strikeouts for the day. Justin Hagerty (Westwood, Mesa, AZ 2015) was on the other side of bump. Hagarty work his butt off but only stayed in the ball game for three innings. He gave up four hits, five runs, three walks, and racked up three strikeouts for the day.

War Eagles take out Arizona Baseball

War Eagles take out the Arizona Baseball Club in the Semifinals game late with 11-7 victory. Hitting was really solid for both teams today. War Eagles had a couple of hot bats today. Nevan Gillespie went 2-4 for the day and scored one run. Niko Piazza went 3-4 for the day and scored one run. Alex Stinnett (Westwood, Mesa, AZ 2017) went 1-2 for the day and scored two runs. For the Arizona Baseball Club team, they also had some good hitters today. Dustin Johnson went 1-4 for the day and scored two runs. Gage Johnson (Pinnacle, Phoenix, AZ 2016) went 1-3 for the day and scored three runs. Ian Sanger went 2-3 for the day and had one RBI. Sam Huff was really hot today. He went 1-3 for the day and had four RBI's.

Pitching was not the strong part of this game. A lot of runs were scored and hits too. Dylan McConnell was the pitcher today for the War Eagle 16u. McConnell pitched three innings worth while giving up six hits, two runs, and walk one. Same story for the Arizona Baseball Club team. Garrett Elwell was guy on the mound today for the most part. Elwell tossed 3 innings worth, while giving up three hits, three runs, and five walks. Like I said earlier, pitching was the not the strong point of the game.

North Coast Beat T-Rex Baseball Club

The North Coast Reds outlast the T-Rex Baseball Club in the Semifinal game to advance to the Championship Game 15-11 victory. There was a lot of offense in this match up. North Coast Reds had a couple of stud hitters in this game. Christian Encarnacion Strand (College Park, Martinez, CA 2018) was hot today with going 3-4, two runs and two RBI's. Nicholas Simmons (Northgate, Concord, CA 2016) went 2-5 today, two runs and two RBI's. Mead was also hot for the day by going 3-5, two runs and one RBI. The T-Rex Baseball Club team was also solid for the day. Zach Baptist (Boulder Creek, Phoenix, AZ 2017)went 1-3 and scored two runs. Scott Mehan went 2-3 and scored one run. Jake Gonzales went 2-3 and two runs. Also Blake Paugh went 1-3 for the day and scored one run.

Pitchers did a fine job today even there was a lot of runs and hits. Nicholas Simmons pitched most of the way for the North Coast Reds. Simmons went three innings worth on six hits, five runs, two walks and striking out two for the day. Then J. Barnett came into the game as the closer for about one inning worth, giving up two walks and striking out to finished the game. Barnett's range today on his fastball was 82-85 mph. For other team, Christian Cuffari (Horizon, Scottsdale, AZ 2016) held his own for the whole game. He gave up twelve hits, nine runs, two walks, and striking out two.

T-Rex hold off CBA Cavs

CBA Cavs gets on top early but can't beat the T-Rex Baseball Club as they lose today close 4-2. Both teams had solid hitting. T-Rex Baseball Club team had three players that stepped up today. Zach Baptist (Boulder Creek, Phoenix, AZ 2017) went 1-3 for the day, Christian Cuffari (Horizon, Scottsdale, AZ, 2016) went 1-2 and scored one run. Also Mitchell Allen had a solid day by going 1-4 for the day and scoring one run. CBA Cavs also had three players that were solid today at the ball park. Jonathon Phelps (Loyola, Los Angeles, CA 2016) went 2-3 for the day and scored one run for the day. Tony Yanez (Gardena, Gardena, CA 2016) went 2-3 for the day and scored one run today. Also Aaron Greenfield (Westchester, Los Angeles, CA 2016) went 2-3 for the day and had one RBI.

Pitching was alright for both teams today as both pitchers got the job done. Mitchell Allen (Boulder Creek, Phoenix, AZ 2016) got the win today for the T-Rex Baseball Club. Allen pitched a solid seven innings and gave up 12 hits. He also struck out eight batters for the day. Rigo Fernandez was the pitcher today for the CBA Cavs. He held his own for three innings worth and struck out seven batters for the day.

Arizona Club close victory over Aggies.

Arizona Baseball Club makes the most of their victory today as they win close 3-2 over the Aggies Baseball. Aggies had six hits today but stranded five on base compared to Arizona Baseball Club four hits and scoring three out of the four. Arizona Baseball Club had some solid hitting today as Dustin Johnson(Desert Vista, Phoenix, AZ 2016), Ian Sanger (Horizon, Scottsdale, AZ 2016) and Michael Jones (Red Mountain, Mesa, AZ 2017) got it done the team today. Johnson went 1-3 today, Sanger went 1-2 today and had two RBI's, Jones went 1-2 for the day. The Aggies had some solid hitting today also Sebastian Perez(Moon Valley, Watsonville, CA 2016), Abel Avitia(Alhanbra, Phoenix, AZ 2015), Juan Cardenas (San Luis, San Luis, AZ 2016), and Manny Molina (Cibola, Watsonville, CA 2016) stepping up today but wasn't quite enough to get the victory. Perez went 1-3 and scored one run. Avitia went 1-3 today and scored one run. Juan Cardenas went 1-3 for the day and Manny Molina went 1-3 today too.

Pitching was not strong today as both pitchers struggled. Spencer Rubinoff (Desert Vista, Phoenix, AZ 2016) got the win today but allowed six hits during his six innings worth of pitching. He gave up two runs and striking out two for the day. For the Aggies pitcher today Juan Cardenas did not have the best day on the mound. Cardenas pitched five innings worth while giving up three runs, one walk and striking out one. Pitching was not the key today as it showed today on the mound. 

War Eagles take out Prospects

War Eagles 16u take out the Prospects 16u in the quarterfinals in close victory 3-1. Daniel Gameros (Westwood, Mesa, AZ 2015) help the the Eagles take home the victory by going 2-3 for the day with a double and single. Also Niko Piazza (Notre Dame Preparatory, Scottsdale, AZ 2018) and the Nevan Gillespie had good day at the plate. Piazza went 2-3 for the today and Gillespie went 1-3 and had one RBI. The Prospects 16u had two good hitters today at the plate also. Azuaje going 1-3 for the day, Brit Fitzgerald (Mesquite, Mesa, AZ 2017) going 1-2 for the day and had one RBI.

Pitching was pretty solid for both teams today. Nevan Gillespie (Westwood, Gilbert, AZ 2017) for the War Eagle 16u pitched a solid day at the ball park. Gillespie pitched seven innings worth while only giving up four hits, one run, one walk, and two strikeouts. Jeremy DeMarr (Shadow Ridge, Waddell, AZ 2016) pitched lights out for the Prospects 16u as the middle reliever. DeMarr pitched 2 1/3 innings worth while only giving up one hit and struck out one. Anthony Medrano (Valley Vista, Surprise, AZ 2017) took the loss today. Medrano pitched four innings worth before getting pulled. He only gave up four hits, two runs, one walk, and striking out two.

Pitching helps North Coast Reds to victory

North Coast Reds victory 5-1 today against CBA Victory in the Quarterfinals came by their ace pitcher Matt Pascual-Mead. Hitting was really solid today for the CBA Victory team. Christian Encarnacion Strand (College, Park, Martinez, CA 2018) had good day at the ballpark. Strand went 2-3 with one run scored with a triple and double for the day. Ryan Mackey (Rio Vista, CA 2017) and Aaron Johnson (San Lorenzo, Richmond, CA 2017) had a good day too. Mackey went 1-2 and scored one run. Johnson went 1-2 and had two RBI's for the day. For the CBA Victory team, Alonzo Billips (Loyola, Ladora Heights, CA 2016) and Aubery Robinson (North Terrace, Hawthorne, CA 2015) were hot today. Billips going 2-2 today, Robinson going 1-2 for today.

Pitching was really solid for both teams today, but you have to give a lot of credit to pitcher for the North Coast Reds. Matt Pascual-Mead ( Compolindo, Orindo, CA 2017) was on the ball today. Pascaul-Mead kept the other team off the boards for six innings of work. He finished day with only giving up three hits, one walk, and striking out six. Phelps took the loss for the CBA Victory, but pitched pretty solid for his team six innings worth. He only gave up nine hits, five runs, one walk, and striking out six for the day.

Prospects 16U cruise to 10-2 victory

Thank to patience and timely hitting, the Prospects 16U team defeated the West Valley Hitmen 10-2.

Hitmen pitcher Jose Meneses (Desert Edge HS, Goodyear, AZ, 2017) was actually able to hold off the Prospects for his two innings, facing the minimum number of hitters in the process. At the plate, Erik Hernandez (Desert Edge HS, Goodyear, AZ, 2017) was able to grab a single and an RBI.

The Prospects were able to gather their 10 runs on only 6 hits and 5 walks. Zach Bain (Campo Verde HS, Gilbert, AZ, 2016) gathered two of those walks, and turned both of those into runs. Isaiah Garcia (Desert Ridge HS, Mesa, AZ, 2016) was able to go 2-2 on the day, good for a run scored and an RBI.

Angels Scout Team White holds on for 7-5 win

Despite falling behind 4-0 to JG Baseball 2017 after the 1st inning, the Angels Scout Team White kept their nose to the grind and found a way to win 7-5.

Pitcher Tony Hernandez-Eto (Mesa HS, Mesa, AZ, 2016) was the star on the mound this game for the Angels Scout Team White, going 4 2/3 innings allowing only a single hit while facing the minimum number of hitters. He reached 80 MPH with the fastball and averaged 65 MPH with the curve. Hernandez-Eto also contributed at the plate, legging out a triple which eventually led to him scoring.

Taylor Hamel (Highland HS, Gilbert, AZ, 2016) also came up big for them, going 2-3 with 2 RBIs, a triple, a stolen base, and a run scored.

On the other side, for JG Baseball 2017, Cesar Sandoval (Chino HS, Chino, CA, 2016) came up big with a 1-2 day with 3 RBIs. Leadoff hitter Christian Deleon (Damien HS, Upland, CA, 2017) went 2-3 on the day with a run scored.

CBA Victory jump out early for 9-0 win

With stellar pitching performances and an early lead, the CBA Victory won 9-0 over the Tucson Champs 16u (Royals) in their first game of the tournament.

6'1" Jimmy Martinez (Segerstrom HS, Santa Ana, CA, 2016) came out firing for the Victory, hitting 82 MPH while striking out 6 in his three shutout innings, allowing only 1 hit. Anthony Payan (St John Bosco HS, Compton, CA, 2016) also allowed only 1 hit in his two innings of shutout pitching. Payan also contributed at the dish, hitting the game's only double, good for 2 RBIs and a run scored. Leadoff man Aubrey Robinson (North Torrance HS, Hawthorne, CA, 2015) reached base all three times he got up (2 singles, 1 walk) and scored twice.

Tucson Champs' Matt Vessey (Sahuaro HS, Tucson, AZ, 2016) made the most of his time on the base paths, stealing a base after reaching on an error.

Pilots and Cyclones Baseball end in tie

The Cleats Pilots 16U and Cyclones Baseball tied in a late night game at Red Mountain Baseball Complex. Ben Wiley (2016, Mcclintock HS, AZ) had a good night for the Pilots going 2-3 with 2 RBI, a stolen base, and a run scored. Sebastian Espinoza (2016, ST. Mary's HS, AZ) contributed to the offense going 1-2 with a run, a walk, and a stolen base.

On the mound, Sean Tamboer (2016, Thunderbird HS, AZ) started the game and threw 2 shutout innings. He used a 67-76 mph fastball with an occasional curveball and change-up to keep hitters at bay. Bradley Clark (2016, Show Low HS, AZ) relieved Tamboer and was throwing a 74-80 mph fastball.

For Cyclones Baseball, Jordan Flores (2015, Kellis HS, AZ) was doing it all going 2-2 with 2 stolen bases, 2 runs, and a walk. Ryan Frankel (2016, Horizon HS, AZ) also had a nice day going 1-3 with a double, 2 RBI, and a run scored.

Travis Bailey (2016, Pinnacle HS, AZ) started on the mound and threw 4 innings giving up just one earned run. He picked up 3K's using a 75-78 mph fastball.



Atkinson shines in win

Ashton Atkinson (2016, Ash Fork, AZ) pitched six strong innings for AZ Pro 16U in their 8-0 win over Angels Scout Team Blue.  He fanned seven while allowing three hits. His fastball was between 74-77 mph. Turner Gasperone (2016, Coconino, AZ) led the offense with three hits including a triple and an RBI.  Dawson Johnson (2016, Flagstaff, AZ) pitched in with two singles and an RBI. Atkinson helped out on offense.  He hit two singles and came around to score twice. Kameron Quitno (2017, Scottsdale Christian Academy, AZ) doubled in two runs.

Bryce Andrashie (2017, Fountain Hills, AZ) pitched an inning for the Angels.  He struck out one and allowed three hits. His fastball was in the low 70's and touched 76 mph.

All Star shuts down RBI

In a low scoring game, All Star Baseball Academy 15U came out on top.  Their pitchers held Arizona RBI to one hit in their 2-0 win. Dylan Bonzo (2017, Sunrise Mountain, AZ) started and lasted two innings. He struck out one and allowed one hit. Matthew Gillies (2017, Liberty, AZ) came in next. In two innings, he struck out two and walked one. Tyler Kelly (2018, Mingus Union, AZ) followed. He struck out three and walked a batter in two innings. Nolan Ruff (2017, Mountain Ridge, AZ) came in to save it.  He struck out one while his fastball was in the mid 70's and touched 78 mph.

Mikel Jolley (2016, Buckeye Union, AZ) pitched 2 2/3 innings for RBI.  He struck out three while allowing one hit. He threw an impressive fastball in the high 70's and touched 79 mph.

Cavs late runs help them win

CBA Cavs scored three in the eighth and went on to beat Warriors Baseball Academy 2017 5-4. Aaron Greenfield (2016,  Westchester, CA) led the offense with a double that plated two runs. Hayden Tapert (2016, Loyola, CA) went 1 for 2 in the win. Brian Fornatoro (2016, Westlake, CA) started the game. In two innings, he allowed four hits and one walk. Greenfield came in next and threw three innings.  He struck out two and allowed three hits. His fastball was in the mid 70's and touched 77 mph. Tony Yanez (2016, Gardena, CA) came in to finish the game. He fanned three and allowed two hits in two innings of work. His mid 70's fastball touched 78 mph in the win.

Carlos started and lasted three innings for the Warriors. He struck out one and allowed two hits. He threw an impressive fastball that reached 78 mph. Jacob Gray (2017, Pinnacle, AZ) came in next and threw two innings. He K'd three and did not allow a hit. His fastball was between 71-74 mph and touched 76. Spencer Campman (2017, Mountain Ridge, AZ) led the offense with two hits including a double and two RBI's.  Devin Bonadeo (2017, Pinnacle, AZ) pitched in with two hits.  Nathan Gawelko (2017, Mountain Ridge, AZ) went 2 for 3 and came around to score twice.

All Star Baseball Academy 16U racked up 10 hits in their 12-9 win over AZ Wildfire 16U Red. Nick Lord (2015, Desert Mountain, AZ) led the offense with three hits including a double and two RBI's.  Sullivan pitched in with two hits and two RBI's.  Matt Lundh (2016,Thunderbird, AZ) helped out with two singles of his own.  Alex Markwardt (2015, Sunnyslope, AZ) singled in two runs in the win.  Jacob Horn went 2 for 2 and an RBI. Nolan Wilson (2017, Sedona Red Rock, AZ) pitched 1 1/3 innings. He struck out two and allowed one hit.  He threw an impressive fastball which ranged in the high 70's and touched 79 mph.

Jacob Perez (2016, Saguaro, AZ) led Wildfire with a double and two RBI's. Rhett Holmes (2017, Saguaro, AZ) went 1 for 3 and an RBI.

Late runs help Thunder

Canyon Thunder scored late in the game and went on to beat Central Cal Baseball Academy 3-1. Kona Quiggle (2016, Greenway, AZ) led the offense with two hits including a double.  He also drove in a run.  Erik Hildebrandt (2015, Campo Verde, AZ) singled in a run.  Cole Delgado (2015, Pinnacle, AZ) went 1 for 3 with a RBI.  Austin Maltby (2014, Highland, AZ) pitched in with two singles. Vince Palermo (2015, Highland, AZ) started and lasted three innings.  He struck out three and did not walk a batter.  His high 70's fastball touched 80 mph. Maltby came in and threw the next three innings.  He fanned two and did not allow a hit.  He also threw an impressive fastball that ranged in the 80's. Hildebrandt came in to save the game. He struck out one and allowed a hit. His fastball also reached 80 mph.

Josh Montelongo (2017, Sanger, CA) pitched for Central.  In six innings, he struck out eight and allowed seven hits. His fastball ranged in the high 70's and touched 85 mph. He also pitched in on offense.  He went 1 for 3 with a double and their only RBI.

White lifts Lasorda

Logan White (2017, Seton Catholic, AZ) had a great day at the plate for Lasorda University in their 10-0 win over CBA Team Easton 16U.  He went 2 for 2 with three RBI's.  Gen Ito (2016, Mountain Pointe, AZ) pitched in with a single that plated two.  Johnathan Watson (2017, Mesquite, AZ) had two hits and two RBI's in the win. Lasorda's pitching only allowed two hits. Ito started the game. In an inning, he struck out two and did not give up a walk or a hit. Cody Roller (2017, Mequite, AZ) pitched an inning. He struck out two and allowed a hit. His impressive fastball was in the high 70's and touched 80 mph.

Sian Kittrell (2017, St. Mary's CO) threw two innings for CBA.  He struck out one and allowed two hits.

Victory holds on

AZ Athletics 16U tried to come back but CBA Victory held on to win 3-2. Jimmy Martinez (2016, Segerstrom, CA) pitched seven strong innings.  He struck out nine and allowed six hits. His impressive fastball was in the low 80's and touched 82 mph. Glenn Ray Moss (2015, Sunny Hills, CA) led the offense with two singles. Alonzo Billips (2016, Loyola, CA) doubled in a run in the win.

Athletics did have some strong pitching.  Nick Brauns (2016, Sunrise Mountain, AZ) started and lasted an inning. He struck out one and gave up two hits. While his fastball was in the high 70's, it also hit 84 mph.  Keegan McCarville (2016, Sandra Day O'Connor, AZ) came in next. In three innings, he struck out four and gave up two hits. His fastball was also in the low 80's and touched 84 mph.  Lowell Wilkinson (2015, Sunrise Mountain, AZ) followed with three strong innings.  He also fanned four hitters. His fastball ranged between 73-75 mph and touched 78.  Jacob Stockdale (2016, Thunderbird, AZ) led the offense with a double and an RBI.

Pitching staff get 13 K's and W for Champs

The Tucson Champs 16U (Royals) shutout the Scottsdale Fire 16U 4-0 in their game at Red Mountain Baseball Complex. Matt Vessey (2016, Sahuaro HS, AZ) hit an RBI double in the bottom of the 1st which got the scoring going for the Champs. Vessey then stole third and later scored on a Brandon Ortiz (2016, Sahuaro HS, AZ) single. Ortiz ended the game 2-2 with a stolen base and 2 RBI. 

On the mound, Carlos Cordova (2016, Tucson Magnet HS, AZ) started and went 2 innings and struck out 4, while showing a 76-80 mph fastball. Brandon Ortiz, Mason Myhre (2017, Canyon Del Oro HS, AZ), and Stockton Pringle (2017, Sahuaro HS, AZ) finished the game with  a combined 5 shutout innings and 9 K's. 

Ian McMillan (2017, Chaparral HS, AZ) went 1-2 with a walk while also throwing 3 shutout innings in relief for the Fire. 


Thunder rely on DiCarlo to get W

The Canyon Thunder outlasted JG Baseball 2016 in a tight 2-1 contest. Nick DiCarlo (2017, Arcadia HS, AZ) was the star for the Thunder going all 7 innings on the mound and giving up just one run. He showed a 75-78 mph fastball and mixed in a 67-69 mph curveball. He also went 2-3 with a triple a stolen base, and a run on offense. 

Holden Boyce (2018, Horizon HS, AZ) went 1-1 with a double, 2 walks, and run for the Thunder.

Steve Ybarra (2016, Chino Hills HS, CA) started on the mound for JG Baseball and lasted 6.1 innings. He showed a 76-80 mph fastball along with a smooth delivery and good late-breaking curveball. He also hit a double. Adam Medrano (2016, Charter Oak HS, CA) came in out of the pen and flashed a loose arm action and 85-88 mph fastball. 

Zack Cooper (2016, Los Osos HS, CA) was 1-2 with a double and a run for the JG Baseball offense. 



Tight game ends in tie

The West Valley Hitmen and Central Cal Baseball Academy tied 3-3 in a Sunday game at the Reds and Indians spring training facility.

Joaquin Alegria (2015, Agua Fria HS, AZ) led the Hitmen offense going 2-3 with a double and 2 RBI in the third spot of the order. Brady Stubbs (2016, Moon Valley HS, AZ) also contributed in a big way going 1-2 with 3 stolen bases, a run, and a walk. 

On the mound, Michael Sears (2017, Millennium HS, AZ) started for the Hitmen going 5.1 innings and giving up just one earned run. He used a 72-76 mph fastball and 60-62 mph curveball to rack up his 5 K's. He was relieved by Jose Meneses (2017, Desert Edge HS, AZ) who threw the final 1.2 innings. He used a 75-77 mph fastball to get 4 strikeouts.

For Central Cal, Kamron Lewis (2015, Edison HS, CA) started on the mound going one inning and giving up no runs. He threw a 82-84 mph fastball that allowed him to get 3 strikeouts. 

Fernando Galindo (2015, Madera HS, CA) went 1-3 with a run, a stolen base, and an RBI. Matthew Frazier (2017, Clovis North HS, CA) added a double, a run, and an RBI for the offense.

The Arizona Baseball Club beat Wolfpack Baseball 16U 8-3 in their afternoon game. Adam Bernardo (2016, Scottsdale Christian Academy, AZ) led Arizona Baseball Club on the mound going 6 innings giving up just 2 earned runs. He used a 67-72 mph fastball and 61-69 mph curveball to keep batters off balance. Dustin Johnson (2016, Desert Vista HS, AZ) closed out the game using a 69-74 mph fastball. 

Kole Kaler (2017, Queen Creek HA AZ) led the team on offense going 2-2 with 2 RBI, a stolen base, and a walk. Sam Huff (2016, Arcadia HS, AZ) also had a good game going 1-1 with a double, a run, and RBI, and a walk. 

Tristan Stockman (2016, Desert Mountain HS, AZ) started on the mound for the Wolfpack and was also 1-1 with a run and an RBI at the plate. Keaton Licon (2016, Desert Mountain HS, AZ) went 1-3 with a double and a run.

The Angels Scout Team Blue and UA Prime tied in an afternoon game at Reds and Indians spring training facility. Jackson Herzog (2017, Desert Mountain HS, AZ) started for the Angels going 2 innings and striking out 2. he was followed by Alex Sirola (2017, Desert Mountain HS, AZ) and Joseph Lerensten (2017, Sunnyslope HS, AZ) who combined for 5 innings giving up just one run. 

On offense, Bryce Andrashie (2017, Fountain Hills HS, AZ) went 1-3 with a double and an RBI. Vega had a hit, a run, and an RBI for the Angels.

UA Prime starting pitcher Parker Friedentag (2016, Smokey Hill HS, CO) threw 6 innings giving up 2 runs and picking up 3 K's with his 66-70 mph fastball. Osvaldo Zavala (2016, George Washington HS, CO) came in for one shutout inning of relief using a 73-74 mph fastball.

The Angels Scout Team Gray beat the Horizon Huskies 10-7 in a battle of offenses. Braxton Allen (2017, Mountain View HS, AZ) was a force at the plate for the Angels going 3-4 with a triple, 2 runs, and an RBI. Connor Denning (2017, Arcadia HS, AZ) also had a good game going 2-3 with 2 runs, an RBI, and a walk. Mikel Lucas, (2017, Basha HS, AZ) Johnston Hunter, (2017, Sunnyslope HS, AZ) and Briscoe each added 2 hits for the Angels offense. 

On the mound, Riley Erickson (2017, Chandler HS, AZ) threw 3.1 shutout innings in relief. 

Danny Berger led the Huskies going 2-3 with a triple and 2 RBI. Scott Sneden also added 2 hits with 2 RBI and a run scored. The Huskies got great contribution from Kevin Drake who went 2-2 with a walk and 2 RBI.

T-Rex defeat Canyon Thunder.

T-Rex Baseball Club defeat the Canyon Thunder 10-5. Christian Cuffari was the man at the plate today with racking two RBI's on one hit for the day. Mathew for the Canyon Thunder team was the hot hitter, going 2-3 for the day and scored one run. T-Rex hitting came around as the game the got later and later.

Pitching was not as solid today for T-Rex Baseball Club even though they won. Kyle Stotts did have a very good day. He gave up five in six, but the bullpen had his back the rest of the game. The bullpen gave up no runs and the offense put up a lot or runs to help the pitchers out. Aaron couldn't get the job done  for the Canyon Thunder team. He lasted two-thirds of an inning, walked two, allowed five runs, and struck out one for the day. Honestly today pitching was not key to the game. The hitters made this game happen.

Dbacks Academy beat CBA Team Easton 16U 7-3 after a big third inning. Trey Dillard (2017, Sunnyslope HS, AZ) had a huge 2 RBI double that third inning that extended the lead for the Dbacks. Tayt Smith (2016, Perry HS, AZ) also had a good day going 1-1 with a run, an RBI, 2 stolen bases, and 2 HBP's. 

On the mound, Billy Fiore (2017, Campo Verde HS, AZ) started the game going 4 innings with 4 strikeouts. He was relieved by Trey Dillard who came in throwing a 78-82 mph fastball. Dillard threw one perfect inning with 2 K's. Jacob Stobart (2016, Red Mountain HS, AZ) closed out the game for the Dbacks with 2 shutout innings and 2 K's. 

Sian Kittrell (2017, St. Mary's HS, CO) led the Easton offense going 1-2 with a double, 2 RBI, and a run scored. Sean McFadden (2016, Falcon HS, CO) threw 3 shutout innings in relief with 3 K's using a 72-75 mph fastball.

AZ Athletics fall AZ Team Clutch

AZ Athletics didn't stand a chance against the AZ Team Clutch as they lost 12-3. AZ Team Clutch scored six runs in the fourth inning to help put away the AZ Athletics. Wes Mikulewicz had two extra base hits for his team today. Team Clutch today the hammered the pitching and made it look easy as six hitters had a field day of hit. The six hitters combine for eleven hits and nine runs scored.

Pitching did not come easy for the athletics today. There ace Timothy Mendez only pitched two innings while giving up six hits and five runs. Pitching for the AZ Team Clutch really didn't have to do much because their hitting was their the whole game.

Wilkinson leads Athletics' comeback

The AZ Athletics 16U beat Venom 4-1 in comeback fashion. Venom had the lead until the 6th when Lowell Wilkinson (2015, Sunrise Mountain HS, AZ) hit a huge 2 RBI single for the Athletics. Colin Ludwig (2016, Chandler HS, AZ) had a solid day at the plate going 2-3 with a run scored. Three hitter Jacob Lagos (2016, Chandler HS, AZ) was 2-3 with a run scored as well. 

On the mound, Beau Brieske (2016, Chandler HS, AZ) started for the Athletics throwing one shutout inning using a 77-79 mph fastball to get 2 strikeouts. He was relieved by Logan Demato (2016, Perry HS) who threw the remaining 6 innings giving up just one unearned run. He utilized a 73-78 mph fastball along with a 68-69 mph curveball.

For Venom, Aaron Contreras (2017, Verrado HS, AZ) was 1-2 with an RBI. Right-handed pitcher Westin Vanderwerf (2016, Independence HS, AZ) threw the entire game for Venom.

JG Tied Team Nutty Buddy

JG Baseball 2017 tied the Team Nutty Buddy 16u 7-7. These two teams played really well today as they score show it. There were two guys that stood out for the JG team, Drew Cowley and Corey Lemus. Cowley went 1-2 and scored one run. Lemus went 1-4 and scored two runs. For the other team, two players also stood out, Brady Lamb and Chris Vieane. Lamb went 1-2 and scored one run. Vieane went 2-3 and scored one run.

Pitching was solid today for both teams. Moore for the JG was on the ball on the mound. He pitched five innings, while giving up two hits, one run, one walk, and striking out ten. Andrew Guercio was also solid for his team Nutty Buddy. Guercio pitched four innings, while giving up five hits, three runs, two walks, and three strikeouts for the day.

Aggies drop Wildfire.

Aggies Baseball drop AZ Wildfire 16u in 5-0 victory behind an early hit by Abel Avitia. The first four runs help the Aggies seal the deal for the victory. Aggies Juan Cardenas was hot today hitting perfect at the plate. Cardenas went 2-2 for the day. Rhett Holmes went 2-3 for the day AZ Wildfire 16u Red.

Brandon Myers look very solid today at the mound. The other team AZ Wildfire only managed one hit off of Myers for the day. Myers struck out five on his three innings of work. Saul Marquez got the win today while racking up four strikeouts and surrendered three hits for the day. Max Schroder was on the side of the decision, lasted only two innings, struck out two and allowed one run.

War Eagle escape the Bulldogs

War Eagle 16u take down the ASD Bulldogs in a shutout victory fashion winning 5-0. Pitching today was a bigger part of the game today than hitting. Hitting was still solid but pitching was definitely reason why War Eagle 16uu won today. Daniel Gameros help the War Eagle to victory today hitting a two run double in second inning to help extend the lead. ASD only had two hits as a team today.

Pitching was again the key to this game, Aaron Makil was the horse today in the game. Makil help his team to victory by striking out four to help seal the deal for the game. Makil kept the Bulldogs off the scoreboard for all of the seven innings. He pitch shutout and did not allowed any runs to cross the plate for the whole game with two hits. Makil's range on his fastball today was 80-82 mph.

CBA Cavs Blowout the AZ Pro

Third inning rally helps spark the CBA Cavs to a victory over AZ Pro 16u 8-0. Five runs in the third inning help the Cavs seal the deal for the game. Dejuan Johnson look good at the plate for the Cavs. Johnson racked up three RBI's on one hit for the day. Sam Gellagos was the hot bat today for the AZ Pro. Gellagos went 1-2 for the day.

Rigo Fernandez looked really sharp today on the mound for the Cavs. Fernandez pithced 3 2/3 innings, while giving up only one hit, walked three and struck out seven. Kameron Quitno was the guy on the mound today for the AZ Pro team. Quitno pitched three innings while giving up five hits, eight runs, and striking out three for the day.

Venom survive victory.

Venom today survive CBA Victory 6-2 because of late game heroics. Nico Drogaris brought home the game winning run to help give the lead to Venom in the six. Drogaris also went 1-3, three hits, and one one RBI for the day. Alonzo was the hot hitter today for the CBA Victory. Alonzo went 1-2 and scored one run for the day.

Griffin Fabits was a workhorse today as he pitched seven solid innings while only giving up one run, four hits, two walks, and three strikeouts for the ball game. Alonzo Billips was the other pitcher for the CBA Victory that a pretty good job on the mound today. Alonzo pitched 3 2/3 innings while allowing one walk and had seven strikeouts for the day.

North Caost beats Dinger early.

North Coast beats up on the Team Dinger early as they win 10-0. Christian Encarnacion Strand was the hot hitter for the North Coast Reds. Strand went 2-4 for the day while bring in one run and scoring two runs himself. Underwood had the only hit today for his team ending the no hitter. North Coast Reds also had eleven hits as team for the day.

Team Dinger could not manage a whole lot Zachary Chalmers when on the mound. Chalmers only allowed one hit, two walks, and struck out five for the day. Chalmers show some pop on his fastball but was not quite the velocity yet. For the other team, Hamel pitched two innings before being pull, while giving up seven hits, five runs, one walk, and striking out two for the day.


Late Rally Gives Team Dinger Big W

Team Dinger rallied for a huge 8-run rally in the top of the 7th to lead to a 10-6 victory over Angels Scout Team Orange on Sunday morning of the 16U WWBA West Memorial Day Classic. 

Shepard led the way for Team Dinger at lead-off going 3-4 and scoring 2 runs and showed good defensive tools in the infield. Renschler also helped the Dinger offense with a go-ahead single in the 7th. 

James had a solid outing for Team Dinger going 4.2 innings while giving up only two runs and 3 K's. James showed good command on the mound throughout the game with majority fastballs.

Gabriel Cava (2016, Desert Vista, AZ) had a perfect day at the plate for Angels Scout Team Orange going 4-4 with 2 doubles, RBI, and 1 run scored. Cava showed raw power to the gaps as a polished hitter. Melek Holland (2016, Shadow Ridge HS, AZ) also helped the offense as he recorded a triple, RBI, and two runs scored as he went 2-2 at the plate with good bat speed. 

Saltonsta's Clutch Triple Sinks Team Clutch

Ryan Saltonsta lined a triple to right field in the top of the sixth to tie the game at 3-3 and would score when the next batter, Lane Saunders, singled to left to give the All-Star Baseball Academy a 4-3 advantage they would hold on to, to defeat AZ Team Clutch on Saturday. 

Saltonsta finished the game 1-for-2 with a walk to go along with his game tying triple and Saunders went 2-for-3 in the contest with the game winning hit. 

Carter Robinson came on to throw four scorless innings in relief for the Academy earning the win. Robinson did not allow a base runner and struck out seven in a dominant relief outing. 

Bardowell's Strong Start Propels Bulldogs

ASD Bulldogs starter Daniel Bardowell tossed five shutout innings allowing only two hits and combined with two relievers to throw a two-hit shutout leading ASD to a 6-0 win over CBA Team Easton. A four-run fifth inning proved to be all the offense the Bulldogs would need as they received big offensive contributions from Kyle Oyama and JB Hunter. 

Oyama (2017, El Toro, CA) drove in three runs out of the leadoff spot for the Bulldogs and finished the game 1-for-3. Hunter (2017, San Clemente, CA) went 3-for-3 and scored two runs as the only player to record multiple hits in the game. 

Bardowell (2016, El Toro, CA) needed 73 pitches to get through his five innings of work in earning the win. He allowed only two base runners, both singles, as he struck out nine CBA batters.

JG Baseball 2016 defeated the T-Rex Baseball Club by a final score of 8-2.  Austin Ruiz (2016, Diamond Ranch HS, CA) was key in the victory as he went 3-4 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI showing good bat speed and a patient approach at the plate.

Steve Ybarra (2016, Chino Hills HS, CA) was also productive at the plate for JG as he went 0-3 but managed to score 3 runs, steal 2 bases, have 1 RBI and take 1 walk. 

Cody Stevens ( 2017, Yucaipa HS, CA) earned the win for JG as he went 4 innings allowing 1 earned run on 3 hits and 2 walks while striking out 4.  Stevens showed a sharp downhill delivery and kept hitters off balance as he mixed a 73-78/82 mph fastball and a high 60's curveball in his outing. 

For the T-Rex Baseball Club, Scott Mehan (2017, Cactus Shadows HS, AZ) posted a fine 2-3 at the plate with 1 double.  Blake Paugh (2017, Chaparral HS, AZ) showed power to all fields and used a quick, compact swing as he went 1-2 with 1 RBI and 1 walk. 

North Coast hangs in with All Star.

The North Coast Reds hangs in a victory manner to defeat the All Star Baseball Academy 15u 6-4. Zachary Chalmers did hitting for the North Coast tonight. Chalmers collected two extra base hits with a double and triple. All Star Baseball Academy hot hitter David Avitia Duarte was pretty solid with going 1-4 with one run and one RBI.

Pitching was solid for the North Coast team tonight as their ace Santiago Cantu took down the other team lineup with ease while racking up six strikeouts and allowing no earned runs on 5 1/3 innings of work. Anthony Cosenza did most of the work for the All Star team. Cosenza tossed five innings worth while giving up seven hits, two walks, and three strikeouts.

Arizona Team too much for the Angels.

Arizona Baseball Club offense help them to victory tonight with an 8-0 victory over the Angels Scout Team White. Six runs were scored in the first three innings to help put the game away early. Sam Huff (Arcadia, Phoenix, AZ 2016) was the hot bat on the field with reaching bases three times, two RBI's and two walks. For the other team, Micheal Scott (Basha, Chandler, AZ 2016) was the hot hitter for the Angels by going 1-2.

Pitching was pretty solid for the Arizona Baseball Club team tonight their ace Ian Sanger (Horizon, Scottsdale, AZ 2016) pitched a shutout for all of the five innings of work. Also allowed no runs on two hits and striking out six. For the other team Jose Arriola (Evit-Mesquite, Mesa, AZ 2016) was guy on the mound. Arriola pitched 2.2 innings worth with giving one hit, two runs, two walks, and striking out three.

Prospect Pitching leads victory.

Prospects 16u pitching was the key to victory as they win 1-0 over the Horizon Huskies. For the Prospects Zach Bain (Campo Verde, Gilbert, AZ 2016) was the hot hitter tonight by going 2-3 and scoring one run which help them win the game. Huskies top hitter for the night Austin Montano by going 2-3.

Pitching tonight was the key to the ball game. Prospects ace Anthony Sumrall ( Millenium, Surprise, AZ 2016) sparked his team with his work on the mound. Sumrall shut down the other team for six innings of work. Also only allowed five hits, one walk, and four strikeouts. Connor Daugherty for the Huskies pitch really well tonight even though he took the loss. Daugherty tossed about six innings worth, while only giving up one walk, allowed one run, and four strikeouts. Both of these pitchers tonight pitch really well and the kept the game exciting.

AZ Wildfire falls the AZ Athletics 11-2

AZ Athletics 15u defeat the AZ Wildfire 16u Red team in domination of 11-2 decision for the game. The Athletics scored most of their runs in third inning, by putting together four hits in that inning. Their hot hitter for the night was Cameron Van Kilsdonk (Sunnyslope, Phoenix, AZ 2017). Kilsdonk racked up three hits and three RBI's for the night. Athletics hit the ball solid and scored a lot of runs when need to, only had six hits as team. The other team had six hits too, but didn't rack up the runs when needed too. Jake Walshire (Arcadia, Phoenix, AZ 2016)was the player that stood out for his team by going 1-2 and scored one run for the night.

Pitching was not as solid because there were a lot of hits from both teams for the night. AZ Athletics ace Anthony Quattrocchi (Joy Christian Academy, Peoria, AZ 2017) tossed five innings, with giving up six hits and striking out six. For the team, Gage Kenne (Cactus Shadows High School/Psh, Scottsdale, AZ 2016) did most pitching load for the night with tossing about three innings while giving up four hits, seven walks and striking out three.

Warriors rout Angels 8-0

Warriors Baeball Academy defeats the Angels Scout Team Blue in an offense pound of 8-0. Five first runs came early to help finish the game early. Jacob Gray (Pinnacle, Scottsdale, AZ 2017) was perfect tonight at the plate going 3-3 and an RBI. The Angels only had three hits tonight as team, one coming from Drew Marovich (Basha, Gilbert, AZ 2017) who went 1-2 for the night.

Pitching was really solid for Warriors tonight with ace Jose Salicido (Cesar Chavez, AZ 2017) with only giving up three hits for the night, keeping the Angels off the scoreboard for all five innings. Also racked up five strikeouts. For the other team pitcher Ronnie Roimondi (Desert Mountain, Scottsdale, AZ 2017) only about two innings worth, while giving up four hits and five runs before they pulled him.

Wolfpack and Nutty Buddy tie

Wolfpack Baseball 16u vs Team Nutty Buddy 16u have tied in Saturday night's game at 2-2 after 7 innings of play.

Tucker Rhode (2016, Desert Mountain HS, AZ) threw a complete game for the Wolfpack, tossing 7 innings allowing 0 earned runs on 3 hits and registering 4 strikeouts. 

Offensively for the Wolfpack, Anthony DeRogatis (2016, Desert Mountain HS, AZ) had a good day at the plate going 1-2 with both of his teams RBI.   Nick Rusinek (2016, Desert Mountain HS, AZ) put together a nice day as well going 1-1 with 1 run scored, 1 walk, and 1 stolen base. 

For team Nutty Buddy, Abraham Karim (2016, Red Mountain HS, AZ) tossed 4 no-hit innings allowing only 2 walks with 4 strikeouts.  Christian Vieane (2017, Mesquite HS, AZ) came in in relief and showed good velocity sitting in the 72-77/78 mph range with his fastball. 

Copland's 7K's help Central Cal to victory

The Central Cal Baseball Academy defeated the Horizon Huskies 7-1 behind a dominant performance from Cooper Copland (2015, Clovis North HS, CA).  Copland went a perfect 4 1/3 with 7 strikeouts in route to the win using mostly his 78-80/81 mph fastball. 

Jacob Boele (2016, Clovis North HS, CA) lead Central Cal's offense by going 3-3 with 1 triple, 1 run scored, and 1 RBI.  Boele showed solid power potential and good bat speed at the plate.  Tristen Alvarez (2015, Madera HS, CA) showed a sound hitting approach 0-1 with 1 run scored and 3 walks. 

For the Huskies, leadoff hitter, Cameron Daugherty went 1-3 with a double in the game. 

Phelps leades CBA to W

CBA Victory defeated the Scottsdale Fire 16u by the score of 3-0 behind the strong pitching from Phelps.  Phelps featured a fastball that topped out at 81 and effectively used ea 70 mph changeup. 

CBA leadoff hitter, Aubrey Robinson (2015, North Torrance HS, CA), went 1-3 with 1 RBI to help lead the offense.  Robinson showed a gamer mentality both at the plate and in the field where he displayed a good first step and good lateral agility. 

For the Fire, starting pitcher, Colby Davis (2017, Chaparal HS, AZ), showed an easy throwing motion as he topped out at 81 mph in his 3 innings of work. 

To lead the way for the Fire offense, Garret Kull (2017, Chaparal HS, AZ) went 2-2 at the plate.

AZ Team Clutch vs Aggies Baseball have tied in group I play. 

For the Clutch, starter, Rhyse Dee (2016, Libery HS, AZ), tossed 5 innings allowing 2 runs on 3 hits and 2 walks while striking out 4.  Dee sat between 77-81/85 mph on his fastball while also using a high 70's curveball.  Dee also went 1-2 with 1 double, 1 run scored and 1 RBI at the plate. 

Rudy Mueller-Schrader (2016, Mountain Ridge HS, AZ) came in for the Clutch using a 76-78 mph fastball in his 2 perfect innings where he struck out 1. Mueller-Schrader also put on a nice day at the plate going 2-2 with 1 triple and 1 run scored. 

The Aggies leaned on starter, Juan Cardenas (2016, San Luis HS, AZ), who threw 5 innings allowing 1 earned run on 6 hits and 1 walk while striking out 3.  Cardenas threw a 77-80 mph fastball and mixed in a high 70's curve in his outing.  Abel Avita (2015, Alhambra HS, CA) also had a strong outing tossing 2 scoreless innings giving up only 1 hit and striking out 2 using a 76-80 mph fastball.

Manny Molina (2016, Cibola HS, CA) lead the way offensively for the Aggies going 1-3 with 1 double, 1 RBI and 1 run scored.

The West Valley Hitmen defeated the Angels Scout Team Gray 2-0 behind the brilliant pitching of Brady Stubbs (2016, Moon Valley HS, AZ).  Stubbs went 7 shutout innings allowing only 5 hits and 2 walks while striking out 10.  He used a 73-77/80 mph fastball that had good sink and maintained his velocity throughout the entire game. 

For the Hitmen's offense, Jonathan Castillo (2016, Agua Fria HS, AZ) had the lone hit going 1-3 in the game. 

The Angles' offense, Mikel Lucas (217, Basha HS, AZ) went 1-2 with a walk in his 3 trips to the plate. 

Adrian Madero ignites offense to 8-4 W

Adrian Madero (2017, Cholla High Magnet HS, AZ) was the spark for the Tucson Champs 16u (Royals), as the team totaled 11 hits on the day to defeat the Venom 8-4.  Madero went 2-3 at the plate with a triple, an RBI, and two runs scored.

Carlos Cordova (2016, Tucson Magnet HS, AZ), Javier Valencia (2017, University HS, AZ), and Stephen Garcia (2016, University HS, AZ) all contributed to the offense by hitting a double a piece.

Mathew Hackman (2017, Empire HS, AZ) started the game for the Tucson Champs, going 3.2 innings, striking out six, and was aggressive with a good fastball that averaged 75-77/77 mph.

For the Venom, Kyle Jenson (2017, Verrado HS, AZ) went 1-2 at the plate, with a run scored and an RBI on the day.

The Arizona Baseball Club erupted in the top of the first inning scoring five runs, and went on to defeat JG Baseball 2017 10-4 in five innings.

Sam Huff (2016, Arcadia HS, AZ) led the way for Arizona Baseball Club, going 3-3 at the plate, with a triple and a double, four RBIs, and a run scored in the game.  Cameron Cannon (2016, Mountain Ridge HS, AZ) also helped out by going 1-3, hitting a double, scoring a run and also one RBI.

Cobe Karhoff (2016, Mesquite HS, AZ) went 2.2 innings for Arizona Baseball, giving up one hit and struck out four.  He showed off a fastball, averaging 81-82 mph and topped out at 84 mph.  Reid McLaughlin (2018, Desert Mountain HS, AZ) finished the game for Arizona baseball, pitching the final 2.1 innings, also striking out four.  His fastball averaged 76-78 mph and topped out at 80 mph.

Blake Flint leads way for Cyclones

Cyclones Baseball defeated the JG Baseball 2016 6-1, behind impressive pitching by Blake Flint (2016, Pinnacle HS, AZ).  Flint pitched a complete game, giving up just one run, and struck out nine hitters.  He used a fastball that averaged 81-83 mph and topped out at 84 mph, while also mixing in a couple different off-speed pitches.

At the plate, the Cyclones were led by Tanner Bland (2017, Centennial HS, AZ), who went 2-2 with a double, and three runs scored in the contest, showing off good speed on the base paths.

For JG Baseball, Adam Medrano (2016, Charter Oak HS, CA) went 1-2 hitting, while also contributing on the bath paths with a stolen base.

On the mound for JG, Brett Vansant (2016, Redlands East valley, CA) went two innings, displaying a fastball that averaged 76-79 mph and topped at 80 mph.

Jake Bryant (2016, Glendora HS, CA), Marshall Peak (2016, Norco HS, CA), and Zack Cooper (2016, Los Osos HS, CA) all showed off their fastballs that topped out at 78 mph on the day during their time on the mound for JG Baseball.

Team Dinger edges in a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to end the game in a 2-2 tie against Allstar Baseball Academy 15u.

For Team Dinger, Wicker led the way going 2-2 at the plate, with a triple and a run scored.

Renschler pitched a complete game for Team Dinger, striking out three, and displaying a fastball that topped out at 75 mph.

For Baseball Academy 15u, David Avitia Duarte (2017, Alhambra HS, AZ), went 1-2 at the plate, hitting a double and driving in a run.  Tyler Kelly (2018, Mingus Union HS, AZ) and Sam Stewart (2017, Liberty HS, AZ) each contributed to the offense with a double a piece.


Easton Rhodehouse leads way for Angels

The Angels Scout Team White was carried by good pitching and some timely base running, as they defeated the Wolfpack Baseball 16u 3-0.

Easton Rhodehouse (2016, Highland HS, AZ) took the mound for the Angels, throwing five innings of one hit ball, striking out seven and giving up no earned runs.  His fastball averaged 76-79 mph, and topped out at 80 mph.  He also went 2-3 at the plate with an RBI.

Tyler Quinn (2017, Gilbert HS, AZ), even though going 0-0 batting, he contributed with two stolen bases and a run scored.

For the Wolfpack, Tristan Stockman (2016, Desert Mountain HS, AZ) went 1-2, with a double on the day.  On the mound was Adam Bidnick (2016, Desert Mountain HS, AZ), who went seven innings, struck out seven, and throwing a fastball that averaged 74-77 mph and topped out at 79 mph, while also mixing in some curveballs.


Late runs not enough for Cleats Pilots 16u

The Cleats Pilots 16u try to get a late rally, scoring two runs in the top of the seventh, but it was not enough as they fell to the T-Rex Baseball Club 5-3.

Mitchell Allen (2016, Boulder Creek HS, AZ) led the way for T-Rex, going 3-3 at the plate with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored.  he showed patience at the plate and a live bat.

Riley Kohler (2017, Sunrise Mountain HS, AZ) went six innings for T-Rex, striking out eight hitters, utilizing a fastball that averaged 71-75 mph and topped out at 78 mph.  He had good command and was able to throw strikes, while also throwing a good, sinking changeup.

For the Cleats, Tristan Thomas (2016, Mountain Ridge HS, AZ) went 2-2 with a double.  Josh Sieglitz (2016, Mountain Ridge HS, AZ) took the mound for the Cleats, pitching six innings, throwing a fastball averaging 77-80/80 mph, and also mixed in a handful of different off-speed pitches.  He had good command of his pitches and was able to throw strikes while being around the plate.


Hitting carries Allstar Baseball Academy

The Allstar Baseball Academy 16U utilizes 10 hits in the game to defeat the AZ Athletics 15U 5-0.

Lane Saunders and Matt Lundh (2016, Thunderbird HS, AZ) combined to give up six hits.  Saunders pitched four scoreless innings displaying a fastball averaging 74-76/76 mph, and also mixed in numerous off-speed pitches.  Lundh finished out the game, throwing three innings, striking out five.  His fastball was 74-78/78 mph, and he as well displayed a wide variety of off-speed pitches throughout his innings of work.

On the mound for the AZ Athletics, Dylan Sund (2017, Sunrise Mountain HS, AZ) pitched 2.1 innings, striking out five hitters, and also getting his fastball to top at 80 mph, and averaging 78-80 mph.

At the plate, Jennings went 3-3 for the Allstar Baseball Academy, driving in 3 runs and hitting two doubles.


Seven run third sparks 12-1 win for Cavs

The CBA Cavs grab a 12-1 victory over the UA Prime thanks to a explosive seven run third inning and a few miscues by the Prime.

Aaron Greenfield (2016, Westchester HS, CA) led the way for the Cavs, going 1-2 at the plate with a triple, a run scored, and three RBIs.  He showed good bat at the plate and was an aggressive hitter.  Hayden Tapert (2016, Loyola HS, CA) also helped out on the offensive end, going 2-3, a run scored, and two RBIs.

Daniel Lowry (2017, Eaglecrest HS, CO) went 2-2 at the plate for the UA Prime.


Pitching duel ends game in 0-0 tie

The ASD Bulldogs and Lasorda University battled it out, in a game made up of a pitching duel that combined, only allowed four hits in the game, resulting in a 0-0 tie.

For the Bulldogs, Bradley Spooner (2016, El Toro HS, CA) went the complete game giving up just two hits and striking out three.  He displayed a 79-81/82 mph fastball, while also mixing in a respectable amount of curveballs throughout the game.

Austin Green (2016, El Toro HS, CA) took the mound for Lasorda, throwing a complete game two-hitter, giving up no walks and striking out eight batters.  Green also showed a good fastball that averaged 81-83/83 mph, and also mixed in some off-speed pitches.


AZ Pro Wins on Walk-Off Error

Trailing 4-0, AZ Pro scored in the final three frames to edge UA Prime 5-4 with the tying and go-ahead runs coming in bottom of the seventh on an error. The UA Prime committed five errors in the game helping fuel the AZ Pro comeback.

INF Sam Gallegos (2016, Scottsdale Christian Academy, AZ) went 2-for-3 and had a crucial RBI triple in the bottom of the sixth on an 0-2 pitch with two outs in the inning that helped bring AZ within one run when the next batter, Daniel Cervantes (2017, St. Mary's, AZ), drove him in with an RBI single. 

Kyle Markell (2016, Red Mountain, AZ) earned the win for AZ, throwing three innings in relief allowing only one run. Markell attacked hitters with his fastball sitting 63-68 mph and topping out at 70 mph.  

UA Prime starter, Paddy Walsh (2017, Smoky Hill, CO) was saddled with a tough loss as he pitched a complete game and did not allow an earned run. Walsh pitched to contact throughout the game scattering six hits and walking only one, while striking out one. The lean, 6'4" right-hander, threw 68 percent of his pitches for strikes as he needed 79 pitches to get through the game. Walsh ended throwing more curveballs than fastballs as he showed a great feel for the pitch throwing it in the mid 50's.

Early Offense Leads To War Eagle Win

The War Eagles jumped out to an early 9-1 lead that proved to much for the Dbacks Academy to overcome, as they fell 9-5 in a shortened five inning game. Eagles Pitchers, Nevan Gillespie (2017, Westwood, AZ), Kaya Hayes (2016, Westwood, AZ) and Dylan McConnell (2016, Westwood, AZ) combined to allow only one earned run in the victory. 

OF Niko Piazza (2016, Notre Dame Preparatory, AZ) went 3-for-4 and drove in four runs. The Scottsdale native had a two-run double to left in the first and had a two-run single to center on an 0-2 pitch as part of the Eagles seven run second inning.

Parker McKinsey (2015, Millenium, AZ) stole two bases as the War Eagles stole four bases in the game against the Dbacks. Mckinsey finished the game 2-for-3 and drove in two runs on a double to center in the second inning. 



  


Tucson Pounds out 14 Hits en Route to Win

The Tuscon Champs had 10 players record at least one hit and four players record multiple hit games as the offensive exploded for 14 hits and 10 runs against the AZ Athletics in a 10-5 win. 

OF Carlos Cordova (2016, Tucson Magnet, AZ) had two doubles and scored two runs to pace the Royals offense as he reached base in all three of his plate appearances adding a walk in the first inning. Batting left-handed, Cordova's third inning double plated the fifth run of the game and put the Champs ahead 5-2, a lead they would never look back from. 

Matt Vessey (2016, Sahuaro, AZ) and Manny Murrillo (2016, Amphitheater, AZ ) both had 2RBI games for Tucson with doubles in the third and sixth inning, respectively. 

Logan Demato (2016, Perry, AZ) had a strong game at the plate for the Athletics, driving in four runs with a two-run triple in the first and a two-run double in the third. Demato finished the game 2-for-3. 


Defensive Miscues Sink Arizona RBI

Arizona committed six errors in the field and were held to only one hit as they fell to the Angels Scout Team Orange, 10-2. Despite only having six hits in the game, Team Orange was able to take advantage of poor defense and five walks to score double digit runs. 

Angels starter, Giovanny Nieves (2016, Marcos De Niza, AZ) threw five one-hit innings, striking out six. The right-hander gave up two early runs after and RBI triple in the first but settled down the rest of the game as he continued to attack hitters with his fastball as he showed only one off-speed pitch all game. Nieves fastball was clocked as high as 84 mph but he sat 78-82 mph for most of the game. 

Melek Holland (2016, Shadow Ridge, AZ) went 1-for-3 with an RBI triple in the sixth and scored two runs for the Angels as he showed a solid approach at the plate turning in two quality at-bats. 

Second baseman, Mikel Jolley (2016 Buckeye Union, AZ) had the lone RBI for Arizona as he delivered the RBI triple in the first inning. He scored during the next at-bat when Nieves balked on the mound. 

McClanahan Gem Leads Thunder

The Canyon Thunder received five strong innings from starter Chad McClanahan as they made the most of their three hits on the day to defeat the Pilots, 6-1. 

McClanahan (2016 , Brophy College Prepatory, AZ) earned the win as he shut down the Pilots allowing only one three base runners (1H, 2BB) while striking out nine. He showed five different pitches throughout his outing relying heavily on his fastball and curve to shut down the Cleats. The 6'2" right-hander worked downhill showing solid arm action with his fastball sitting 76-81 mph and kept hitters off balance with a mid 60's curve. The Scottsdale native also went 1-for-2 at the plate, adding an RBI single in the third.

Pilots starter, Easton Buckley (2016, Boulder Creek, AZ) pitched well in defeat, lasting four innings and allowing three unearned runs on three hits and two walks, while striking out three. Buckley threw mostly fastballs touching as high 77 mph and sprinkled in an occasional sweeping curve that averaged 67 mph. 
 

Offense carries Reds to victory

The North Coast Reds beat Arizona RBI 14-0 in an early afternoon game at Red Mountain Baseball Complex. Matt Pascual-Mead (2017, Campolindo HS, CA) led the offense going 2-2 with a walk, 2 RBI, and 2 runs scored. He showed a live bat and drove the ball well on his 2 RBI double in the 2nd inning. Christian Encarnacion Strand (2018, College Park HS, CA) had a 2 RBI triple in the 2nd and ended the day 2-2 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. JJ Barnett (2017, American Canyon HS, CA) had a good game as well going 2-3 with a double, an RBI, and a run. Christopher Rogan (2018, De La Salle HS, CA) went 2-3 with 2 RBI and a run to help contribute to the offense.

 The Reds had a strong showing on the mound allowing just a single hit. Zachary Chalmers (2017, California HS, CA) got the win after coming in for an inning of relief. He showed a high ¾ arm angle and an effortless arm action, which allowed him to pick up 2 strikeouts. Christopher Rogan closed out the game going 1 inning and getting 3 K’s. He flashed a strong 81-84 mph fastball and projectable stuff with his ¾ arm angle.

 Mikel Jolley (2016, Buckeye Union HS, AZ) went 1-2 with a double for Arizona RBI.


Lasorda University and War Eagle tie

In a effort to maintain uniformity, Lasorda University and War Eagle 16U played 7 innings of baseball Friday night. Unfortunately, that was long enough to come up with a victor as the game ended in a 2-2 tie.
Lasorda featured Danny Gorman (McClintock HS, Tempe, AZ, 2016) on the hill, and he delivered 8 strikeouts in his 5 innings of pitching while limiting War Eagle to a single unearned run. Gorman featured a high-70's fastball mixed with a complimentary curveball and change-up. War Eagle threw 3 different pitchers who combined for 8 strikeouts and only 1 earned run.
One of those pitchers was Hank Bergquist (Saguaro HS, Scottsdale, AZ, 2016) who pitched the bulk of the game (5 IP) and also contributed nicely at the plate. His single knocked in the first run of the game for War Eagle in the first inning. Niko Piazza (Notre Dame Preparatory HS, Scottsdale, AZ, 2016) showed off his speed on the base paths, stealing two bases on the day.

Angels Scout Team Orange win 5-3

In their second game of the day, Angels Scout Team Orange pulled out a victory with a 5-3 win over the All Star Baseball Academy 15U team.
All Star Baseball Academy's team was sparked by catcher David Avitia Duarte (Alhambra HS, Phoenix, AZ, 2017) who knocked in all three runs for his team with help from a triple and a sacrifice. Pitcher Clay Schwarner (Sunrise Mountain HS, Peoria, AZ, 2017) held the Angels Scout Team Orange at bay for the final 2 innings of the game, striking out 4 and allowing no hits and only one walk.
For the Angels Scout Team Orange, Spencer Henegar (Marana HS, Tucson, AZ, 2016) fueled the offense from the 8-hole, going 2-4 on the day with a double and knocking in three runs. Also contributing were Jacob Atencio (Queen Creek HS, Queen Creek, AZ, 2016) and Giovanny Nieves (Marcos De Niza HS, Gilbert, AZ, 2016) who both collected triples, batted in a run, and scored a run.
Team Orange featured two pitchers on the mound for this game. Starter Dylan Roach (Williams Field, Gilbert, AZ, 2016) allowed only four runners to reach in his four innings of work, limiting the opposition to two runs, one of them unearned. Tyler Cranston (Notre Dame Preparatory HS, Scottsdale, AZ, 2018) relieved Roach in the 5th inning and turned in five K's in his three innings of work and only allowed one run.

CBA Cavs victorious in first game of tournament

To begin their tournament run, the CBA Cavs claimed victory, winning 6-2 over the Angels Scout Team Blue.
The top of the Cavs' lineup came up big as expected, going a collective 8-11 on the day. Leadoff batter Jaylon McLaughlin (Westchester HS, Los Angeles, CA, 2016) collected two singles and reached twice on errors, resulting in him crossing the plate 3 times. Batting right behind him was catcher Jonathan Phelps (Loyola HS, Los Angeles, CA, 2016) who went 3-4 on the day with a triple and two RBIs. Behind the plate Phelps showed a strong, accurate arm and easily handled his pitchers. From the 3-hole, Tony Yanez (Gardena HS, Gardena, CA, 2016) collected three singles, a walk, and two RBIs. 
Angels Scout Team Blue's leadoff man Bryce Andrashie (Fountain Hills HS, Fountain Hills, AZ, 2017) collected a single in his only official at-bat for an RBI, and also reached by walk and scored one of the two runs on the day. Team Blue's pitching was done by committee for this game, featuring 7 different pitchers who all threw exactly one inning. 
Charles Grant-DeBose (North Torrance HS, Torrance, CA, 2015), the starter for the Cavs, threw 4 solid innings of work, allowing only 1 unearned run and striking out 7 in the process. He showed great presence on the mound, staying tall and attacking the hitters with a fastball that topped out at 83 MPH.

T-Rex Baseball Club takes it 3-0

T-Rex Baseball Club took down their first tournament game with a 3-0 victory.
Blake Paugh (Chaparral HS, Scottsdale, AZ, 2017) was the star of the game for T-Rex. He started the game on the mound, going the first 3 1/3 innings, only allowing 3 hits. His fastball was consistent in the lower 80's range, topping out at 84 MPH. At the plate, he collected two hits and turned both of those into runs for himself along with a stolen base. Mitchell Allen (Boulder Creek HS, Phoenix, AZ, 2016) finished the game for T-Rex, throwing the final 3 2/3 innings and only allowing a single hit. He threw right around 80 MPH with a fastball that topped out at 82.
Cyclones Baseball remained in the game the whole way thanks to a complete game pitching performance by right-handed Gabe Zubia (Notre Dame Preparatory HS, Scottsdale, AZ, 2016). Zubia allowed 3 runs (only 1 earned run) and struck out 8 T-Rex batters in his 6 innings of work. He mixed in both a fastball and curveball, with the fastball topping out at 83 MPH and the curve sitting around 70 MPH.
At the plate, Bailin Markridge (Sandra Day O'Connor HS, Peoria, AZ, 2016) stuck out as a top performer, collecting a single and 2 walks on the day.

Venom defeats Fire 3-2 with late game triple.

In their first game of the Memorial Day Classic Tournament, Venom defeated the Scottsdale Fire 16U thanks to two lead-changing runs in the top of the 7th inning.
Those two runs came thanks to an Venom's Aaron Contreras (Verrado HS, Litchfield Park, AZ, 2017) triple which knocked in Wyatt Dodson (Sandra Day O'Connor HS, Glendale, AZ, 2016) and Kyle Jenson (Verrado HS, Buckeye, AZ, 2017). Jenson had an impactful day otherwise, going 2-3 with 2 runs scored, a walk, and a stolen base. Venom's leadoff hitter, 2B Chase Sowinski (Mountain Ridge HS, Glendale, AZ, 2017) also had a standout day at the plate, reaching base 4 times with 2 singles and 2 walks, and tacked on a stolen base to go with it.
Scottsdale Fire's Ian McMillan (Chaparral HS, Scottsdale, AZ, 2017) shone out, collecting 2 of the team's 4 hits, and scoring their first run and collecting a stolen base. Max Miller (Chaparral HS, Scottsdale, AZ, 2017) also contributed to the Fire's attack by knocking in the other run.
On the mound, the top performer of the day was Venom's Westin Vanderwerf (Independence HS, Avondale, AZ, 2016), who struck out 4 in 3 perfect innings of relief to collect the win. Scottsdale Fire's starter Drew Wayland (Chaparral HS, Scottsdale, AZ, 2017) struck out 7 batters in his 4 innings of work while recording a no decision.

Central Cal wins their opener 3-0

Central Cal Baseball Academy took the victory in their first game of the Memorial Day Classic with a 3-0 victory over Angels Scout Team Gray.
The stars of the game were on the hill, as this game featured two excellent starters. For the Angels Scout Team Gray, their starter, Connor Denning (Arcadia HS, Phoenix, AZ, 2017), threw the first 6 innings, only letting 5 total runners to reach (4 hits, 1 walk) and only allowing 2 unearned runs. Denning sat around 71-74 MPH with his fastball, topping out at 82 MPH while mixing in a couple of 60 MPH curveballs. He also threw an impressive 70% of his pitches for strikes.
The standout performance of the game came from Central Cal Baseball Academy's Joshua Jackson (Clovis East HS, Clovis, CA, 2016). The towering 6'7" right-handed pitcher pitched the complete 7 innings, allowing only 1 hit and 2 walks, striking out 11 batters. Jackson's easy-flowing delivery and his ability to disguise the ball well made him a nightmare for opposing batters. He was very consistent with his pitches, keeping the fastball around 80-83 and topping out at 84 MPH, while mixing in the occasional 69 MPH curve.
While the game was dominated by the pitchers, there were still a few notable performers at the plate. For the Angels, Max L'Heureux (Chandler, AZ, 2017) reached base twice with a walk and a single. Jacob Boele (Clovis North, Fresno, CA, 2016) for Central Cal had a great day, reaching base three times with two singles and a walk to go with two stolen bases and the only RBI of the game. Also having a good day was Tristen Alvarez (Madera HS, Madera, CA, 2015), who collected two walks and a stolen base.

Pitching guides Lasorda U to victory

Lasorda University beat the Dbacks Academy 2-1 in a game dominated by pitching. Jonathan Vasquez (2016, Horizon HS, AZ) started the game for Lasorda University and threw 3 no-hit innings with 3 strikeouts. He showed a 71-75 mph fastball and mixed in a 60-68 mph curveball to keep hitters off balance. Sean Hahn (2017, Ctd-Valley Union HS, AZ) came in throwing 78-80 mph in relief leading to a clean inning. Johnathan Watson (2017, Mesquite HS, AZ) closed the game out with 3 innings and just one unearned run. Kyle McCormick (2017, Desert Ridge HS, AZ) had an outstanding day at the plate going 3-3.

For the Dbacks Academy, Tayt Smith (2016, Perry HS, AZ) went 2-3 and Jacob Stobart (2016, Red Mountain HS, AZ) went 1-1 with a walk and a stolen base. Stobart also started the game on the mound and threw a 74-77 mph fastball while flashing a 62-65 mph curveball. 

Quick earns W for Team Dinger

Team Dinger beat Arizona RBI 3-0 behind the pitching of Quick. He threw a complete game shutout giving up only 2 hits and collecting 6 strikeouts. His high 3/4 arm angle and 68-72 mph fastball allowed his to hit his spots and be aggressive. Underwood had 2 hits for Team Dinger and also had an RBI. Johnson had a big day going 1-2 with a walk, 2 runs scored, and an RBI. 

Jordan Keanini (2016, Desert Edge, AZ) went 1-2 at the plate for Arizona RBI. Steven Boyd (2017, Buckeye Union HS, AZ) started the game going 4 innings and only giving up one run. He used a 67-70 mph fastball to get him out of some jams. 

North Coast Reds improve to 2-0

The North Coast Reds beat the Angels Scout Team Orange 9-4 to improve to 2-0 in the tournament. Ryan Mackey (2017, Rio Vista HS, CA) led the Reds going 2-3 with a run and 2 stolen bases out of the 3rd sport in the order. He also started the game on the mound going 3.1 innings and giving up only 1 run on 4 hits. Zachary Chalmers (2017, California HS, CA) had a solid day at the plate as well collecting 2 hits, 2 RBI, and a run. Matt Pascual-Mead (2017, Campolindo HS, Ca) went 1-1 with 2 RBI, a walk, and a run scored. 

For the Angels Scout Team Orange, Giovanny Nieves (2016, Marcos De Niza HS, AZ) went 2-4 and Angel Santos (2016, Williams Field HS, AZ) went 2-4 with a 3 RBI triple.

The Angels Scout Team White beat Team Nutty Buddy 16U 13-3 in after a 10 run 4th inning. The offense had a great day with a strong balanced attack. Taylor Hamel (2016, Highland HS, AZ) led the Angels at the plate going 3-3 with 4 RBI, 3 stolen bases, and a run scored. David Minder (2016, Corona Del Sol, AZ) had a good showing on the day collecting 2 hits with 3 RBI, a walk, and a run. Micheal Scott (2016, Basha HS, AZ) showed a fluid stroke, gap to gap power, and high ceiling with his impressive day. He went 2-2 with 2 runs scored and an RBI. Austin Nichols (2016, Queen Creek HS, AZ) went 2-2 3 RBI and a run scored out of the 3rd spot in the order. On the mound, Jacob Walker (2016, Pinnacle HS, AZ) was aggressive with his 78-82 mph fastball and mixed in a late breaking 66-68 mph curveball. He threw 4 innings in relief and got the win.

Prospects 16U beat the Angels Scout Team Gray 8-0 in their first tournament game. The Prospect offense had a great day at the plate with Ryan Tierney (2016, Basha HS, AZ) going 1-2 with a triple, a run, and an RBI. Isaiah Garcia (2016, Desert Ridge HS, AZ) went 1-2 with 2 RBI and Isaiah Leach (2016, Joy Christian Academy) went 1-2 with a run and an RBI contributing to a strong overall day for the team. On the mound, Cooper Williams (2016, Campo Verde HS, AZ) threw 4 no-hit innings in relief and collected 6 K's. He was 78-81 with his fastball and displayed good command and a balanced delivery. 

Jacob Denton (2017, Marcos De Niza HS, AZ) went 1-2 for the Angels Scout Team Gray. 

AZ Team Clutch cruises to 7-0 win

AZ Team Clutch defeated AZ Wildfire 16U Red Friday afternoon 7-0. Nick Hamilton (2017, Liberty HS, AZ) paced AZ Team Clutch going 2-3 on the day with 2 runs scored and a stolen base. Rudy Mueller-Schrader (2016, Mountain Ridge HS, AZ) and Hunter Parks (2016, Brophy College Preparatory, AZ) each contributed a hit and an RBI. Second basemen Gabe Hudson (2015, Liberty HS, AZ) also stole 2 bases for the winners.

AZ Team Clutch pitchers Nathan Pauga (2015, Liberty HS, AZ) and Vinnie Cafarelli (2016, Liberty HS, AZ) combined to keep the AZ Wildfire 16U Red scoreless over 7 innings. Pauga threw his fastball 75-77 and reached a max velocity of 79. He allowed only 1 hit over his 3 and 2/3 innings and struck out 5 batters. Cafarelli contributed 4 more strikeouts over the final 4 frames featuring a fastball that ranged from 74-78 and topped out at 79. 

Team Clutch Takes 7-0 Victory

AZ Team Clutch rides a six hit team effort to take a 7-0 win from the AZ Wildfire 16U Red. Team Clutch had five batters get hits, paced by Nick Hamilton's 2-3 effort at the plate. Hamilton (Peoria, AZ, 2016) led all batters with 2 hits, both going for singles. 

Nathan Pauga (Peoria, AZ, 2015) kept Team Clutch out front from the mound, tossing three and a third innings of scoreless baseball. Pauga allowed only one hit while walking one and striking out five. 

The Wildfire had some success at the plate with four hits, but were unable to overcome the seven fielding errors committed by five players. 

AZ Pro 16U Wins in Five, 9-1

AZ Pro 16U balanced strong hitting and stingy pitching to knock off Warriors Baseball Academy 2017, 9-1 in five innings on Friday.

Javon Fisher (2016, Betty Fairfax HS, AZ) was the offensive standout for AZ Pro 16U, driving in three runs in his three at bats. Fisher’s two hits were the game’s only extra base hits — a double in the 3rd inning and a triple in the 5th inning. Adding to the offensive onslaught was Daniel Cervantes (2017, St. Mary’s HS, AZ), who drove in two runs. Robert Cabrera (2017, North Canyon HS, AZ), Jason Kamerman (2016, Brophy College Prep, AZ), and Sam Gallegos (2016, Scottsdale Christian Academy, AZ) all added two hits to the AZ Pro cause, and Turner Gasperone (2016, Coconino HS, AZ) scored two runs.

Cervantes also had a stellar start for AZ Pro 16U, allowing just one unearned run on two hits. Cervantes struck out two hitters, walking one. Kyle Markell (2016, Red Mountain HS, AZ) finished the game for AZ Pro 16U, tossing a scoreless, hitless fifth.

The one Warriors run came in the third inning — a run that tied the game at 1. Carlos Bracamontes (2017, Cesar Chavez HS, AZ) hit a sacrifice fly, which scored Adrian Salazar (2017, Raymond S. Kellis HS, AZ). The two hits for Warriors Baseball Academy 16U were recorded by Nick Alvarez (2017, Sandra Day O’Connor HS, AZ) and Devin Bonadeo (2017, Pinnacle HS, AZ).

Aggies and Athletics End in Draw

Aggies Baseball and the AZ Athletics 15U battled to a 0-0 draw after seven innings of play. Neither team could get much from their offenses, totaling up only five hits between both teams. 

The Aggies were led on the mound by Abraham Torres (Watsonville, CA, 2016) who tossed four innings, allowing two hits while walking four and striking out three. Aldo Fernandez (Watsonville, CA, 2016) came in as relief for Torres in the fifth and protected the mound, finishing out the game for the Aggies with no hits while walking three and striking out two.

The Athletics were paced by Jordan Suarez's five innings of scoreless pitching. Suarez (Phoenix, AZ, 2017) allowed only one hit while walking two and striking out four. Suarez was relieved in the sixth by closer Timothy Mendez (Surprise, AZ, 2017). Mendez used a four pitch rotation to allow two hits while walking none and striking out the final batter. 

Horizon Huskies Strike Late in 7-0 Win

Horizon Huskies broke open a 0-0 tie in the fifth inning, and rode a combined one-hitter to a 7-0 triumph over West Valley Hitmen on Friday.

Horizon Huskies starter Taylor Ablin tossed 5.1 innings in the win and allowed just one hit — a single from Matt Dacey (2016, Desert Edge HS, AZ) in the Hitmen’s first at-bat of the game. Ablin struck out seven hitters, only walking one. The game was finished by Scott Sneden, who retired all five hitters he faced, including two on strikes.

The game was scoreless through four innings, but the Huskies struck for three runs in the top of the fifth. The runs came on an RBI single from Austin Montano, and sacrifices from Max Goodman and Casey O’Malley. A four-run seventh inning was sparked by another Montano RBI single, as well as a John Partin single. Two more runs would score on a West Valley error. Montano finished the game with three hits, a game-high, with O’Malley adding two.

AZ Athletics 16U Record 13 Runs in Win

AZ Athletics 16U used an offensive explosion to defeat Scottsdale Fire 16U, 13-3 in five innings, on Friday.

AZ Athletics cranked out 13 hits, but only one — a double from Ricky Tuita (2016, Sandra Day O’Connor HS, AZ) — was not a single. Tuita was the leading producer on the game for the Athletics, driving in three runs and scoring another. Andrew Lucero (2016, Perry HS, AZ) and Colin Ludwig (2016, Chandler HS, AZ) also added two RBIs each. Four Athletics had multi-hit games — Tuita, Lucero, Ludwig, and Keegan McCarville (2016, Sandra Day O’Connor HS, AZ), who scored three runs, and also stole two bases.

Nick Brauns (2016, Sunrise Mountain HS, AZ) pitched well for the Athletics, tossing a scoreless first two innings of the game, in which he allowed only one hit.

Scottsdale Fire 16U was led at the plate by Ian McMillan (2017, Chaparral HS, AZ), who had two hits and two runs batted in. Also adding two hits to the Scottsdale cause was Max Miller (2017, Chaparral HS, AZ). The other run scored by the Fire was recorded by leadoff hitter Nick Willits (2017, Chaparral HS, AZ).

Canyon Thunder Top Cyclones Baseball, 4-1

Canyon Thunder scored the opening run of the game, and used a strong pitching performance for a wire-to-wire 4-1 victory on Friday over Cyclones Baseball.

After a scoreless, hitless inning from Brandon Flores (2016, Verrado HS, AZ) in the first, Roy Washburn (2017, Dysart HS, AZ) came on for the next five innings, allowing just two hits. Washburn struck out seven hitters while walking just one, and threw nearly 70 percent of his pitches for strikes. Michael DeSilva (2018, Ironwood HS, AZ) closed the game out for the Thunder, retiring the final hitter, who represented the tying run.

The Thunder took the lead in the first inning on an RBI single from Nick DiCarlo (2017, Arcadia HS, AZ) with two outs. The lead was extended in the third inning, when a two-run single from Ryan Atencio (2016, Gilbert HS, AZ) accounted for a 3-0 Canyon Thunder lead. The final run of the game was scored in the top of the seventh inning, when Atencio scored on a fielding error. DiCarlo and Atencio each had two-hit games, as did Joe Palanzo (2017, Cactus Shadows HS, AZ), who had the game’s only extra-base hit.

Cyclones Baseball scored their run in the bottom of the seventh, when Blake Flint (2016, Pinnacle HS, AZ) scored on a fielder’s choice from Bailin Markridge (2016, Sandra Day O’Connor HS, AZ). Cyclones Baseball had the tying run at the plate, but could not push any more runs across the plate.

Rusinek Spins Gem for Wolfpack Baseball 16U

Wolfpack Baseball 16U claimed victory in a pitchers’ duel, topping JG Baseball 2017 2-0 on Friday. Nick Rusinek (2016, Desert Mountain HS, AZ) tossed a complete game, and held JG Baseball to just three hits. Rusinek struck out seven hitters in his seven innings, displaying a fastball that topped out at 82 mph, with his average sitting between 78-81 mph.

Wolfpack Baseball’s scored its two runs in the third and fifth innings. The scoring opened on an error from JG Baseball, which allowed Jordan Bradley (2016, Desert Mountain HS, AZ) to score from third base with two outs. The second run also scored on a fielding error, as Rusinek came home to score after a two-out double to right field. Leadoff hitter John Lee (2016, Desert Mountain HS, AZ) also added two hits for Wolfpack Baseball.

JG Baseball’s pitchers combined to allow just four hits to Wolfpack Baseball, scattering five strikeouts between three pitchers. Dominic Valencia (2017, La Sierra HS, CA) turned in a solid start, striking out four hitters over three innings of work, allowing just two hits and an unearned run.

JG brought the tying run to the plate in the top of the seventh after a one-out triple from Josh Ibarra (2017, Don Antonio Lugo HS, CA). However, Rusinek struck out the final two hitters of the game to seal the 2-0 win.


10-run sixth lifts JG Baseball 2016 to 12-0 win

JG Baseball 2016 exploded for 10 runs in the top of the sixth inning, turning a 2-0 lead into a 12-0 blowout over Cleats Pilots 16u on day one of the 16U WWBA West Memorial Day Classic. Jake Gentry (2017, Claremont HS, CA) went 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs two runs scored and a stolen base. Austin Ruiz (2016, Diamond Bar HS, CA) went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI, a run scored, a walk and a stolen base.

Jair Donovan (2016, Chino Hills HS, CA) went 1-for-3 with a two-RBI triple and a run scored for JG Baseball, while Cody Milner (2017, Yucaipa HS, CA) went 1-for-3 with an RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base. Ryan Almandinger (2017, Upland HS, CA) went 1-for-2 with an RBI double, a run scored and two hit-by-pitches. Zach Cooper (2016, Los Osos HS, CA) added two RBIs and a run scored on a 1-for-3 showing from the plate.

Milner started on the mound for JG Baseball, as well, and posted a fastball that ranged from 77-87 MPH. Milner gave up one hit and zero walks with three strikeouts in three scoreless innings. Adam Medrano (2016, Charter Oak HS, CA), who went 1-for-2 with a walk at the plate, relieved Milner and also went three innings, allowing two hits and one walk with five strikeouts. His fastball ranged from 81-88 MPH.



War Eagle 16U cruises to 12-1 win

War Eagle 16U got out to an early lead and cruised to a 12-1 win in five innings over CBA Team Easton 16u on day one of the 16U WWBA West Memorial Day Classic. War Eagle scored three, five and four runs in the first three innings, thanks in large part to Niko Piazza (2016, Notre Dame Preparatory, AZ), who went 1-for-2 with three RBIs, one run scored, a walk and a hit-by-pitch.

Aaron Makil (2016, Westwood HS, AZ) reached base in every at-bat for War Eagle. He hit a single, drew three walks and scored three runs. Hank Berqquist (2016, Saguaro HS, AZ) also scored three runs to go along with a 1-for-2 performance and a walk at the plate. Alex Stinnett (2017, Westwood HS, AZ) and Anthony Crisci (2017, Westwood HS, AZ) both went 2-for-3. Stinnett scored twice and Crisci drove in a run.

Makil also started the game on the mound, giving up one hit and two walks in two scoreless innings. He also struck out five batters. Parker McKinsey (2015, Millennium HS, AZ) finished the game, also throwing two scoreless innings. He gave up two hits and zero walks while striking out four.

Dalton Bishop (2017, Mesa Ridge HS, CO) went 3-for-3 at the plate for Easton and Brock Lyons (2016, Doherty HS, CO) went 1-for-1 with a walk and an RBI. Mac McClintock (2017, Woodland Park HS, CO) went 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored.

Smith pitches Dbacks Academy to 3-1 win

The Dbacks Academy beat the ASD Bulldogs 3-1 behind the strong pitching effort of Tayt Smith (2016, Perry HS, AZ). Smith pitched all 7 innings for the Dbacks Academy allowing 1 earned run on 4 hits and 1 walk, while striking out 7. His fastball averaged a velocity of 76-79 and reached as high as 82. ASD Bulldogs pitcher Gavin Garcia (2016, El Toro HS, CA) also pitched all 7 innings of the game allowing 2 earned runs on 4 hits, and striking out 6. Garcia's fastball averaged 72-76 and topped out at 79.

Jacob Stobart (2016, Red Mountain HS, AZ) propelled the Dbacks Academy offensively going 1-2 with a double and 2 RBI's. Third basemen Jackson Sims (2017, Mesquite HS, AZ) also had 2 hits and scored a run for the winners. 

The ASD Bulldogs were led at the plate by first basemen Chase Moneymaker (2016, El Toro HS, CA) who went 2-2 with 1 RBI.

Arizona Baseball Club explodes for 9-1 win

Arizona Baseball Club scored four runs in the fourth inning and five in the fifth to handily defeat Team Nutty Buddy 16u 9-1 in five innings on day one of the 2014 16U WWBA West Memorial Day Classic. Cameron Cannon (2016, Mountain Ridge HS, AZ) led the way for Arizona, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs from the leadoff spot in the lineup. He displayed a fluid batting stroke, good bat speed and stayed inside the ball well on his swings.

Ian Sanger (2016, Horizon HS, AZ) also performed well, going 2-for-3 with a double, one RBI and two runs. He also had a fluid stroke and showed excellent bat speed that allowed the ball to jump off his bat.

On the mound for Arizona, Ryan Hilldreth (2016, Perry HS, AZ) went 3.2 innings, giving up one run (earned) on two hits and two walks while striking out five. His arm action was loose, his delivery was deceptive and he attacked Nutty Buddy hitters with an average fastball ranging from 77-82 MPH.

Nuddy Buddy's lineup compiled two hits and four walks in the game. One of the hits was a double from Christian Vieane (2017, Mesquite HS, AZ), who went 1-for-2 with a run scored.




Warriors tied UA

Warriors Baseball Academy and UA Prime tied in seven innings of baseball of 1-1 score. UA Prime scored it's only run for the game on RBI single by Daniel Lowry (Eaglecrest,Aurora, Co 2017) in the second inning. Warriors Baseball Academy managed to score a run in the seventh inning by an RBI by Adrain Salazar (Raymond S. Kellism Tolleson, AZ 2017).
Pitching was lights for both teams. For the Warriors, Adrian Salazar started out the game with four innings of work, two walks, and four strikeouts. Then Nathan Gawelko (Mountain Ridge, Phoenix, AZ 2017) came in for relief duties. Gawelko pitched five innings of work, two walks, and seven strikeouts. For the UA Prime, Osvaldo Zavala (George Washington, Aurora, Co 2016)was on top of his game today, pitching a solid 6.2 innings, giving up four hits, one run, one walk, and twelve strikeouts.

Aggies team offense was too strong.

Aggies Baseball offense was really strong today taking down the All Star Baseball Academy in the first game of the Classic. For the Aggies, there was two five runs innings scored and ten hits to go around the team early in the first two innings. Sebastian Perez (Moon Valley, Watsonville, Ca 2016) went 1-3 for day and one hit. Javier Urquides (San Luis, San Luis, AZ 2015), Juan Cardenas (San Luis, San Luis, AZ 2016) and Manny Molina (Cilbola, Watsonville, CA 2016) were also hot today. For the other team, All Star Baseball Academy, Clint Howard went 1-2 for the day.

Pitching was pretty solid for the Aggies today, Abel Avitia (Alhambra, Phoenix, AZ 2015) was on the ball today with 3 innings of work, three strikeouts and three walks. For the Allstar Baseball Academy, they used the pitchers they could for the day. Matt Stevenson and Jacob Horn did most of the mound work today. Stevenson pitched one inning with giving up four hits, five runs, two walks, and two strikeouts. Horn two innings, five hits, four walks, and three strikeouts.
