Danny Heim
RHP - 2011 - St Louis, MO
Wabash Valley College
Heim isn’t big or physical at 5-11, 175 lbs but he’s very athletic and throws with minimal effort. He has four quality pitches in a fastball that touches 88 mph, both slider and a curveball and a nice change up.
Dakota Freese
RHP - 2011 - Cedar Rapids, IA
LSU - Eunice
The comparison between Freese and the Giants Tim Lincecum has been made before and likely will be made again due to their similar deliveries. But it’s raw stuff that puts the 6-4 Freese on prospect lists, including an 87 mph fastball, a sharp breaking curveball and well developed change.
Nick Suckow
3B - 2011 - Waukee, IA
Hutchinson CC
Suckow is extra strong at a listed 6-2, 195 lbs and very athletic. His big tool is his power and when he gets his hands extended he can hit the ball out to all fields.
Ian Mezlak
MIF - 2011 - Lorain, OH
Uncommitted
Mezlak did everything on the field well, including play both the infield and outfield, throw and swing the bat, except for run. He looks like the perfect physical/tool profile to convert into a catcher at the next level.
Erik Maki
OF - 2011 - McHenry, IL
Western Illinois
The 6-3, 185 lb Maki’s bat was as good, if not better, than any player at the showcase. He has a smooth left handed swing with very good bat speed and extension.
David Yancey
RHP - 2011 - Cedar Rapids, IA
Southeastern CC
Yancy is very much like top prospect Danny Heim, a 5-11 quality athlete with very good command and a smooth arm action, only with a grade lower present stuff across the board.
Ryan Rumpf
RHP - 2011 - North Liberty, IA
Iowa
Rumpf throws from an extended mid ¾’s release point with a very loose and whippy arm out front. He sat at 83-84 mph with little effort and showed nice feel for a big breaking curveball and deceptive change up.
Brennan Floss
RHP - 2011 - West Des Moines, IA
College of San Mateo
Floss is long and loose at 6-4, 185 lbs and throws with little effort. His fastball only topped out at 81 mph but it really wasn’t a fastball, it was a quality slider with very consistent, large break. When he learns to stay behind a “fastball”, that true slider becomes even a bigger weapon.
Braden Shull
LHP - 2011 - Mt. Pleasant, IA
Kansas State
Shull looks like a prospect with a loose 6-4, 190 lb build. His fastball touched 83 mph and he should good command and feel for his curveball and change up.
Mike Herrmann
1B - 2011 - Gurnee, IL
Uncommitted
Lots of big guys (6-4, 195 lbs) have good looking swings but Herrmann translated his cut into big power, blasting a long home run into the Memorial Stadium left field seats.
Brad Lombard
RHP - 2011 - Fort Dodge, IA
Indiana State/Jefferson CC
Lombard is 6-3, 175 lbs and has all the attributes a young pitcher who is going to improve usually has. He has a long, loose arm, and extended ¾’s release point and maintains his 84 mph fastball with hard sink very well.
Brandon Shulista
RHP - 2011 - Solon, IA
Iowa/Iowa Central CC
Schulista didn’t have one outstanding pitch but pounded the strike zone with three quality ones, a 83 mph fastball, a sharp curveball and a very nice change up.
Alex McRae
RHP - 2011 - New Berlin, WI
Jacksonville
McRae has a big, broad shouldered 6-2, 180 lb build that hasn’t started to fill out yet. He touched 84 mph with a big downer curveball.
Jason Goldstein
C - 2012 - Highland Park, IL
Illinois
Goldstein is one of the most impressive young defensive catchers we’ve seen in some time, especially in his receiving/blocking skills. He swings the bat pretty well, too, especially for a 15 year old.
Alec Rash
RHP - 2012 - Adel, IA
Missouri
Rash has a very nice young pitcher’s build at 6-2, 165, with broad shoulders, and hasn’t started to fill out yet. He pitched in the mid 80’s and showed some promise spinning the ball.
