Batting Practice Highlights

10/29/2022

Andrew Frausto (2024 SS, Placentia, CA) has consistent bat speed with a direct path and does a good job of getting the barrel on plane and driving his hips, generating good power out front with more to come as he keeps maturing.

Miles Ghossein (2024 3B, West Hills, CA) has a very consistent timer and a smooth, loose stroke with bat speed and strength behind it. The components of a high level hitter are present in his swing, and he's got serious power upside as well.

Cooper Hansen (2024 LHP, Riverton, UT) is primarily a lefthanded arm but has things to like as a hitter, with consistent bat speed on a linear plane and consistent hard contact out front, spraying hard liners around the OF.

Jackson Isaacs (2024 OF, Grand Rapids, MI) took a consistent round, showing above-average bat speed with a compact path, getting the barrel out front and showing the ability to drive it middle/pull with authority.

Jordan Lewis (2024 MIF, Chesterfield, MI) took a repeatable round, showing an athletic move in his lower half and good ability to get on plane and create backspin in his swing, spraying liners into both gaps with power that has substantial upside.

Rocco Loffredo (2024 RHP, Stilwell, KS) has a loose swing with a good understanding of how to create leverage, showing bat speed and impact out front with all kinds of power projection given the present leanness of his frame.

Paul Nuetzel (2024 SS, Mequon, WI) has a long body with room to fill to go along with present bat speed and a good understanding of how to create leverage, showing good jump into the pull-gap with the makings of huge power as he continues to mature.

Carson Raether (2024 C, Goodrich, MI) has strength in his lower half and uses that lower half well in his swing, driving with intent and creating good bat speed and jump off the barrel, showing big power to the pull-side all weekend.

Trent Rice (2023 OF, Macomb, MI) has a quick stroke and twitchy hands with good ability to direct the barrel, showing the ability to make hard contact to all fields with real power to unlock as he starts to understand leverage better.

Ryan Beaty (2023 2B, Waller, TX) has really good strength in his hands and wrists and it shows in his contact quality, consistently making firm contact with good leverage and jump.

Conner Cramer (2024 C, Conroe, TX) has good loft in his stroke to go along with solid bat speed and good power overall, hitting one out in BP pull-side with excellent carry, and he has the makings of a serious lefthanded power bat.

Donovan Jordan (2024 OF, Humble, TX) is a physical player with thunder and violence in his hands, swinging it hard with intent to do damage and showing real power to the pull-side especially during BP.

Caden Baker (2024 MIF, Houston, TX) has good bat-to-ball skills and makes solid contact all over the zone, with a compact stroke and solid bat speed to go along with some pop to the pull-side.

Tobin Eschief (2024 RHP, New Braunfels, TX) swings the bat extremely hard with nothing but damage on his mind, and when he's timed up he has serious power to all fields with the body projection to add even more to what is already very substantial pop.

Davis Rivers (2023 C, Waller, TX) is one of the top hitters in the country and his BP's are very loud, with a huge bat speed/strength combo that plays in a big way, showing monster power pull-side with consistent barrels.

Matthew Scott II (2024 OF, Spring, TX) has excellent bat speed and the ability to consistent impact the baseball out front, showing big carry on rising liners middle/pull with all kinds of power projection as he continues elevating the ball more and more.

Elbert Craig (2024 1B, Mansfield, TX) has some of the most power in the country and some of the best ability to hit baseballs extremely hard, showing both during BP in this event and continuing to show it in game.

Peryn Bland (2024 SS, Alabaster, AL) has seriously fast hands with loose wrists and overall bat speed, showing good contact skills with big power projection as he continues filling out his frame. He's an exciting player.

Kade Smith (2023 3B, Searcy, AR) has big hitting tools and showed them both in BP and in game, with tight barrel turns and big strength/lift in the swing, showing big power pull-side with overall quality feel for the barrel.

Sam Swain (2024 SS, Conyers, GA) showed good power to the pull-side, hitting a ball out to left center as well as a couple wall-bangers to dead pull, showing the kind of hand speed and loft along with his strength that make for serious power.

Ty Waid (2023 C, Texarkana, AR) has had a massive fall overall and took a huge BP here, showing his big-time strength and lift with carry off the barrel and easy, consistent home run-type of power overall.

Sylas Boris (2023 SS, Greensboro, NC) handles the bat well and has good bat speed as well, showing the ability to pepper the whole field with liners while having solid projection on his body to continue growing into more pop.

Griffin Cameron (2023 OF, Lexington, KY) has a twitchy, athletic swing with a compact path and good bat speed, capable of spraying hard liners as well as lofting balls into the gap. His offensive ceiling is pretty vast.

Tripp Schroeder (2023 C, Carmel, IN) has huge strength and subsequent ability to impact the baseball, generating big torque in his lower half and really hammering baseballs on a line during his BP session. The power/strength speak for themselves here.

2-North vs. 1-West

10/30/2022

Carson Raether (2024 C, Goodrich, MI) delivered the biggest swing of the game, hammering an 0-2 curveball way out to the pull-side for a grand slam, giving the North club a lead they would never relinquish. Raether had a great overall weekend with the bat and the glove and is due for a rankings bump.

Sebastian Jaimes (2023 C, Lincoln Park, MI) hit an absolute rocket of a home run in the middle innings to the pull-side, putting an exclamation point on a weekend where he consistently found barrel and did a very good job behind the plate in terms of blocking, receiving and throwing. He's a well-rounded player overall who should garner a fair bit of recruiting interest following his performance.

Trent Rice (2023 OF, Macomb, MI) stole double-digit bases throughout the course of the weekend via getting on base on his own as well as playing the "ghost runner" role when other teammates were walked, and he closed out the North win by throwing out a tagging-up runner at 3B from center field. He's a lightning bolt of athleticism with sky-high upside who is headed to Oakland University.

Jordan Lewis (2024 MIF, Chesterfield, MI) picked up another RBI hit in this game and then closed out the win on the mound, working 84-85 mph with his fastball and showing feel for a breaker. Still just 15 years old, Lewis's athleticism and physicality stand out, as do his tools. He's a new find for us at PG, and has vaulted himself onto the recruiting radar following his performance this weekend.

Noah Turner (2023 RHP, Taft, TX) pitched well for the West club, running his fastball up to 87 mph and landing an 11/5-shaped CB for strikes in the low-70's. He has a long, projectable frame with arm speed and is in line for continued velocity increases as he gains strength, and has the building blocks of a power arm.

Andrew Frausto (2024 SS, Placentia, CA) had a big weekend overall and continues to show as a high-level hitter, turning and burning a massive bomb to left field to lead off the home half of the first inning, showing off the bat speed and leverage skills that stood out all weekend. He's uncommitted but shouldn't be for much longer given his toolset and performance.

Alex Vernon (2024 1B, Riverton, UT) had a big swing in this one, getting a fastball over the heart and driving it pull-side for a bases clearing, 3-RBI double that gave the West club a lead at the time. The physicality stands out and he has notable pop in his bat that will play as over-the-fence power more consistently as he continues to mature.

4-Texas vs. 3-South

10/30/2022

Tobin Eschief (2024 RHP, New Braunfels, TX) started the game with a bang today. Drove a fastball very deep to centerfield for a no-doubt home run. Long, athletic frame that has good bat speed and gets to extension easily.

Carson Luna (2024 SS, Houston, TX) laced this ball over the third basemans head for a loud single. Lots of bat speed and hands are quick, getting to the inside pitch with ease.

Cooper Powell (2024 LHP, Bedford, TX) had a quality start today for Team Texas. Filled up the zone with a 3-pitch mix, located low in the zone. Fastball has arm-side run, showing ability to go in and out with it. Curveball was sharp with larger horizontal break. Struck out seven batters in three innings pitched on the mound. Dallas Baptist commit.

Matthew Scott II (2024 OF, Spring, TX) came in and filled up in the zone in his one inning of work on the mound. His 6-foot-4, 195-pound frame stands out with physicality and strength. His fastball reached as high as 80 mph, that he paired nicely with an upper 60’s change-up with great depth and feel.

6-East vs. 5-Southeast

10/30/2022

Daviel Fernandez (2024 RHP, Pennsauken, NJ) filled up the zone in his time on the mound today. Tall, well built frame that works from a clean delivery. Gets downhill well with extension out front. Fastball reached as high as 84 mph on the day. Also threw a 12/6 curveball that kept hitters true and guessing.

Noah Alvarez (2024 1B, Miami, FL) has an extra-large athletic frame that has potential to really hit for power down the road. He got the barrel out front well with a long single to the left-center field fence.

Aidan Petrocco (2024 MIF, Johns Creek, GA) with a hard base hit through the left side for a loud RBI single. Smaller athletic frame that matches plane well and utilizes his quick hands in the box.

Ty Waid (2023 C, Texarkana, AR) has a very athletic, large frame that possess power and strength. He commands the zone well on the mound with a heavy fastball that reached as high as 88 mph. Waid has an above-average slider as well that was thrown as an out-pitch in plus counts. He recorded six strikeouts over three innings. In the box, Waid is an extra-base hit waiting to happen.

Kade Smith (2023 3B, Searcy, AR) drove a long fastball to centerfield for a standup double over the outfielders head. Sturdy build to that gets on plane well. Showed some nice middle of the field power. Balanced setup in the box that looked comfortable adjusting to off-speed.

3-South vs. 6-East

10/30/2022

Connor Chicoli (2024 RHP, Raleigh, NC) is a tall right-handed pitcher who came out of the gates strong for the East squad. Chicoll fills up the zone while working a mid-to-upper 80’s fastball and fading arm-side change up to keep hitters off-balanced. Recorded two strikeouts over two innings on the mound. Georgia Tech commit, that has a great frame with high upside.

Cort Lowry (2024 RHP, Franklin, TX) features a heavy fastball in the mid-80’s that played well on the inner half of the zone. His slider was sharp at 77 mph with spin rate high as 2615 RPM’s. He collected five strikeouts over three innings pitched. The frame is projectable and has potential to continue to add velocity in the near future. He also swung it well with a loud double down the left field line to start the second inning.

Brayden Mulkey (2024 OF, San Antonio, TX) had a sac fly to left field for a solid line out to drive in a run for his South squad. Left-handed hitter that has good twitch in the frame with quality bat speed. He plays the game with energy and looks to steal when on base. Later added a deep triple over the centerfielder head.

Tripp Schroeder (2023 C, Carmel, IN) has an extra-large frame with strength and durability. Behind the plate he blocked well in game, limited dirt ball reads and keeping runners honest. He smoked a loud single through the 5/6 hole in his second at-bat of the game. Schroeder also jumped on the mound and ran the fastball up to 86 mph on the day. Versatile uncommitted 2023 athlete.

Donovan Jordan (2024 OF, Humble, TX) laced the the ball to the opposite field for a standup double over the right fielders head. Jordan has above average speed and looks to use that on the bases as well. He collected two hits on the day. Athlete frame that has potential to be a speed/power threat guy in the future at the next level.

Gavyn Schlotterback (2024 C, Lakeway, TX) recorded two hits on the game, including an RBI single through the right side. Loose wrists with a full-field approach. Medium athletic frame that has shows potential in his hit tools. As more strength is added to the frame, his profile should continue to develop.

Ryan Beaty (2023 2B, Waller, TX) uses a medium athletic frame to move down the mound well and throw strikes with conviction. Has a bulldog mentality that he uses to get ahead of hitters and thrown a lot of first and second pitch strikes. His fastball rides well in the mid-80’s while commanding the upper half of the quadrant.

4-Texas vs. 1-West

10/30/2022

Hudson Hamilton (2023 RHP, Spring, TX) showed some serious arm strength in his start, running his fastball up to 90 mph and punching out 5 in 2 easy innings. The strong-bodied Texas commit has high spin on both his FB and SL, both registering upwards of 2700 rpms.

Davis Rivers (2023 C, Waller, TX) has raked all year and continues to do so this weekend, absolutely hammering a missile to the pull-side that was run down in RF. He's one of the top pure hitters in his class and should absolutely rake at Texas Tech in the middle of the Red Raider order.

Tanner Wiggins (2023 RHP, North Richland Hills, TX) was excellent in his start, running his fastball up to 92 mph with good life and showing very good feel for an 11/5 shaped breaker. He did a solid job of attacking the zone and has the projection on his body to take more jumps in stuff in the future. He also had a solid barrel up the middle for a base hit.

Andrew Frausto (2024 SS, Placentia, CA) is a primary shortstop but came on in relief and looked very good, running his heater up to 88 mph and showing solid feel for his breaker. He attacked hitters and had success getting both whiffs and weak contact.

5-Southeast vs. 2-North

10/30/2022

Jordan Lewis (2024 MIF, Chesterfield, MI) delivered the walk-off hit to propel the North club through to the final, doubling loudly up the gap in left-center that scored a pair. He's a full year young for the '24 class and has shown well this week athletically, and has serious power/speed upside to his profile.

Jon Shields (2023 BHP, Magnolia, TX) is a very unique both-handed pitcher and showed things to like from both sides, primarily working left-handed and sitting 83-86 mph, and showed similar velo (82-84 mph) from the right side. He struck out 3 in his 3 scoreless frames.

Kade Smith (2023 3B, Searcy, AR) continues to rake this weekend and he had another huge extra base knock in this one, hammering a bases-clearing double to center field. The strength and bat speed combo play in a big way for him, and he's had a great weekend.

Sebastian Jaimes (2023 C, Lincoln Park, MI) has had a great weekend overall, showing excellent defensive skills behind the plate and swinging the bat with confidence. He had a barreled shot up the middle for a single in this game, one of several hard barrels he's collected this weekend.

Hudson Johnson (2024 LHP, Prior Lake, MN) started the game for the North squad and looked good, working up to 85 mph with his fastball and showing feel for dotting the edges. He spins a sharp slider in the mid-70's as well with tilt, and continually attacked the strike zone and found rhythm early and often on the bump.

Carson Raether (2024 C, Goodrich, MI) is primarily a catcher but has good traits on the mound as well and picked up the win in relief. He's an athletic righty who moves well, and worked up to 82 mph with his fastball, also showing feel for a knuckle ball that he had some success with.

Anthony Alvarez (2024 MIF, Overland Park, KS) has had a good weekend with the bat especially, showing off a quick and compact lefthanded stroke that features good bat speed and leverage. He had another barrel in this game to go along with several hard barrels yesterday.

3 - South vs 1 - West

10/29/2022

Miles Ghossein ('24 CA) is a former, 2x Select Festival Player. He is also ranked #83 overall in his class. Ghossein shows the ability to be a two-way player. He was up to 87 mph with the FB and kept hitters off balance with an upper 60s CB. Ghossein really showed out at the plate, he has leverage in his swing and also showed pop. Quick bat with loud contact and projects for even more down the road.

Cooper Hansen ('24 UT) was dominate during his 3 innings of work on the mound. He would strike out 7 while only allowing 1 hit. Hansen hides the ball very well and it also very deceptive. The FB was up to 83 mph, however it would sneak up on hitters quickly. He worked a 4 pitch mix with success. His changeup was in the low 70s, and showed a SL/CB mix with both being in the low to mid 70s.

Andrew Frausto ('24 CA) showed some twitchiness in his swing during his showing on Day 1. He currently rocks a 5'11, 180-pound frame with grow to grow and add strength. Frausto was able to collect a triple and a RBI on the day. Impressive bat speed and fielding on defense.

Jared Burdette ('24 TX) is a RHP from Richmond, TX. He has a solid frame at 6'1, 180-pounds. He was able to get downhill and had good arm side run to the FB that was up to 86 mph. Burdette also worked his breaking ball up to 74 mph. He had 2 strikeouts and allowed 1 hit during his 3 innings of work.

Gavyn Schlotterback ('24 TX) is a RHP that was able to run his FB up to 87 mph. He threw plenty of strikes with it while also flashing two different shaped breaking balls that were in the low to mid 70s. Projectable frame at 6'2, 185-pounds.

6-East vs. 4-Texas

10/29/2022

Dalen Boykin (2024 RHP, Zebulon, NC) had a great performance on the mound, striking out 6 in his 3 frames. He's a physical righty who pitches in attack mode, working up to 88 mph with his fastball and showing sharpness to his breaker with good sweep, pounding the zone at a 62% clip.

Kai Tullos (2023 1B, Greer, SC) looked good in a relief appearance, striking out 3 in 2 shutout innings. His fastball has a lot of cut to it out of a very high slot, and he mixes in a breaker with good depth as a different look. He pitched quite well.

Tripp Schroeder (2023 C, Carmel, IN) is one of the more physically strong players in attendance and that strength shows up at the plate, getting the barrel around and hitting an absolute seed of a liner for a base knock early. The power upside in his righthanded bat is substantial.

Tobin Eschief (2024 RHP, New Braunfels, TX) is a 6-6 righty committed to Texas State who showed a lot to like here, working up to 88 mph with his running fastball and showing good feel for varying his breaker looks between SL/CB, throwing a lot of strikes in the process.

Matthew Tellez (2024 SS, Mansfield, TX) came on in relief and was dominant, punching out 5 in 2 innings. He worked up to 86 mph with his fastball, attacked hitters with it, and showed good lateral movement on his breaker with some depth to it as well.

Austin Hardy (2024 SS, Spring, TX) had probably the loudest swing of the game, sending a liner off the wall in left for a 2-RBI double. He has fast hands with strength in his wrists and can really impact the baseball, as evidenced by the dent he left in the left field wall on Field 3. The upside here is notable.

Elbert Craig (2024 1B, Mansfield, TX) has tremendous strength and power to his offensive game and showed it off in this one, launching a lofted double the opposite way over the RF's head. His power potential is vast, and he's capable of leaving the yard in any direction at any time.

5-Southeast vs. 6-East

10/29/2022

Donovan Rabiei (2024 LHP, Jacksonville, FL) was dominant in his outing, striking out 6 over 3 shutout innings, pounding the zone at a 63% clip. He worked 81-84 mph with his fastball, showing command to the edges, and his changeup is a dynamic pitch that got several empty swings and misses.

Kade Smith (2023 3B, Searcy, AR) had a huge day overall, going 1-2 in this game with a massive 3-run bomb to left field as well as striking out 4 on the mound in his 2 inning relief stint. He worked up to 87 mph with his fastball and was overpowering in the zone, and really continues to show well with the bat.

Ty Waid (2023 C, Texarkana, AR) has had as good a fall as anyone in the country, earning top performer status in Jupiter and then raking here this weekend, including a mammoth 2-run blast to left field that would have been out of any ballpark in the country.

Sylas Boris (2023 SS, Greensboro, NC) is a very intriguing talent, primarily a SS with plus speed and good tools all around, and he stood out on the mound as well, working up to 85 mph with his fastball and punching out 3 in 2 innings. He's a great athlete who can pretty much do everything on a baseball field.

Steve Svenson (2024 RHP, Matawan, NJ) had a solid day on the mound, as the 6-3/205 Seton Hall commit ran his fastball up to 88 mph and showed good feel for a sweeping breaking ball. He has good stuff and did a solid job of throwing strikes.

Peryn Bland (2024 SS, Alabaster, AL) didn't have a hit in this one, but by way of being an extra runner in walk situations, stole 5 bases in one inning and scored 3 runs on the day. His first step is very quick, he gets up to top speed in an instant, and his instincts on the bases stand way out.

2 - North vs 3 - South

10/29/2022

Anthony Alvarez ('24 KS) really impressed at the plate. Alvarez shows great quickness with hands and found some solid barrels on the day. He was able to drive a triple over the CF heads for an RBI. Alvarez is currently ranked #28 in KS.

Sebastian Jaimes ('23 MI) is a very advanced catcher. He shows great presentation and can turn balls into strikes. He also threw out a runner during his time behind plate. Jaimes has a quick release with good footwork. Very projectable with a 6'0, 205 pound frame.

Rocco Loffredo ('24 KS) is a 6'5 RHP with a high ceiling. He is currently ranked #14 in KS. His FB was up to 86 mph and shows that there is more in the tank down the road. Loffredo used a 3 pitch mix and was able to locate all. He flash a breaking ball at low to mid 70s.

Ethan Mann ('24 TX) is a RHP pitcher from Tomball, Texas. Mann was able to get downhill and work all quadrants of the zone. He ran his FB up to 85 mph, CB at 73 mph and SL up to 78 mph. He would strike out 5 during his 3 innings of work while only allowing 3 hits.

4- Texas vs. 5- Southeast

10/29/2022

Matthew Millett (2024 RHP, Grand Prairie, TX) has a large frame that really projects well on the mound. The right-handed pitcher ran the fastball up to 90 mph while working through three innings. His curve ball shows depth and refinement. He had five strikeouts on day, while giving up one lone hit. Verbal commit to Texas.

Brock Thorndell (2023 RHP, Cypress, TX) had a nice outing this afternoon for Team Southeast. Thorndell moves well on the mound with confidence and conviction in his approach. His fastball reached as high as 91 mph, sitting mostly in the upper-80’s. Three-pitch mix that projects well to the next level. Five strikeouts over three innings of work. Midland college commit.

Jon Shields (2023 BHP, Magnolia, TX) has a smooth left-handed swing that drove a sharp single to the 5/6 hole. Handsy hitter that has a knack for finding the barrel. Medium frame athlete that should continue to develop power as the frame matures. Quality hit traits that should translate to the next level.
